The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) begins the process of placing students into government-sponsored university and college programmes once its application window closes.

The system assesses candidates using their KCSE mean grade and performance in relevant cluster subjects for their selected programmes.

According to KUCCPS, weighted cluster points refer to a candidate’s calculated performance in four subjects required for a specific degree programme, relative to the performance of top candidates.

Candidates are advised to avoid calculating their cluster points manually and instead log in to the KUCCPS student portal, where they are readily computed and provided.

KUCCPS has the systems to calculate your cluster points through the automated placement system after obtaining KCSE examination performance data. The system uses components, including performance indices (PI) for each student, as provided by KNEC.

The points, KUCCPS adds, are computed to three decimal places to reduce the chances of applicants tying on points.

What Happens After Students’ Choices Have Been Evaluated

Based on the evaluation of the courses applied, applicants are allocated available government-sponsored slots in universities and colleges.

Placement is determined by a candidate’s program preferences, beginning with the first choice and proceeding to subsequent options that the student chose.

Results are released through the KUCCPS portal, with applicants also receiving SMS notifications prompting them to log in and check their placement status.

Students are required to formally accept or reject the offer within the stipulated period. Failure to respond within the given timeframe results in forfeiture of the government-sponsored slot.

How to Apply for KUCCPS Placement

Applications to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) are done online through the official student portal at www.kuccps.net during a specified application period.

Candidates are required to submit their applications within this window, as late submissions are not accepted.

To begin the process, applicants must register on the portal using their KCSE index number, year of examination, and personal details as captured in their KNEC results slip.

After logging in, candidates select up to four programme choices, arranged in order of preference. Each selected programme must meet the prescribed subject cluster requirements and cut-off points.

Applicants are then required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Ksh1,500 via the Paybill details provided on the portal. A payment confirmation code is entered to finalize the transaction before submission.

Before submitting, candidates are advised to review their selections carefully. KUCCPS also provides a short revision period after the initial application window, allowing applicants to modify their choices if necessary.

Once the application is successfully submitted, a confirmation message is sent via SMS or email to acknowledge receipt.
