Kaplong Girls High School is a national girls’ secondary school established in 1966 by the Mill Hill Fathers, located in Bomet County.
The learning institution is a Catholic-sponsored government school. Over the years, Kaplong Girls evolved into a six-streamed modern school with a strong culture of good performance in national exams.
The school grew from a District school of 160 students through its Provincial status of 420 students to the current national status of over 750 students.
It was elevated to national school status owing to its growth both physically and academically. Over 200 students are admitted to the school annually based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy.
Kaplong Girls’ High School performance
Until 2023, admissions at the institution were based on performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination. This was, however, replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), introduced under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
Kaplong Girls has consistently maintained a strong academic record and achieved remarkable results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) over the years.
In the 2023 KCSE, the school had 342 candidates, with 287 of them achieving the minimum university entry grade of C+ under full government sponsorship. The 2023 candidates achieved a mean score of 8.1052.

Kaplong Girls was closed in July 2025, following a student protest sparked by allegations of sexual harassment involving some academic staff. The school’s principal, Clara Mitei, confirmed the closure. The move to close was reportedly made to restore calm.
School fees
Recognized as a national school, Kaplong Girls is among a select group of institutions designated by the Ministry of Education for their exceptional infrastructure, academic performance, and human resource capacity.
The Ministry of Education, through its 2020 guidelines, categorized national schools into four clusters, each with specified annual fee limits. Kaplong Girls falls under Cluster Four (IV), with an official annual fee cap of approximately Ksh75,798 per student.
However, actual fees may slightly vary depending on additional levies approved by the school’s Board of Management (BoM). These may cover costs such as school uniforms, co-curricular activities, motivational programs, and infrastructure development projects. All adjustments are made in line with government policy and MoE regulations.
