Teachers who served as invigilators during the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are set to receive their pending allowances after Parliament confirmed the government’s plan to release the funds.
Payment dates for the 2025 KCPE and KCSE invigilators have been set for June 30, following confirmation in Parliament that funds had been allocated to clear the outstanding dues.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson, Samuel Atandi, announced that the Supplementary Estimates II of the 2025/2026 Financial Year had set aside Ksh1.5 billion to pay the invigilators.
“In these supplementary estimates, we have Ksh1.5 billion, which is going to be used to sort out the arrears of teachers who supported the invigilation process when our students were doing exams,” Atandi stated.
The lawmakers have already voted to adopt the Budget and Appropriations Committee’s report on its consideration of the Second Supplementary Budget Estimates for the Financial Year 2025/2026.

Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson Samuel Atandi’s announcement comes amid prolonged uncertainty over payment timelines for teachers who invigilated the 2025 national examinations.
The supplementary budget proposals seek to increase the 2025/26 financial allocation by KSh18.2 billion, covering adjustments to both recurrent and development expenditure.
During the presentation of the 2026/27 national budget in Parliament, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi indicated that KSh1.5 billion owed to invigilators will be cleared by the end of the 2025/26 financial year.
Mbadi also proposed allocating KSh9.9 billion to support the administration of national examinations in 2026.
“I propose Sh9.9 billion for administering national exams, and that is in addition to what we have just provided before the end of this year to pay the arrears of Sh1.5 billion to teachers. So teachers who marked exams, they will be paid before the end of this financial year,” he said.
Phased Payment Plans for Invigilators
Earlier in the year, former Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that the government would release funds in phases due to existing financial constraints affecting payment timelines.
Speaking in Uasin Gishu County, Bitok acknowledged delays in settling KNEC-related dues but noted that measures were underway to address the backlog and ensure affected teachers are paid.
He revealed that he had raised the matter with President William Ruto at State House, where he highlighted concerns over delayed payments to invigilators involved in national examinations. According to him, the President directed the Treasury to fast-track a solution.
Bitok further assured teachers that payments would be processed within weeks, with some categories, including those involved in Teacher Training College and TVET assessments, already receiving payments. He added that security personnel and drivers had also been prioritized in the initial phase of the payment process.
