Instructions and Guidelines

KNEC has advised teachers to ensure candidates read and follow the examination instructions carefully. Candidates should also be made aware of the penalties for examination irregularities and misconduct.

Candidates are required to avail themselves for searching outside the assessment room and be seated at their desks or tables at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Morning sessions will begin at 8:30 am, with subsequent sessions following the timetable.

Those who arrive late must provide a satisfactory explanation to the supervisor. A paper will only be given to a candidate who arrives more than 30 minutes late under exceptional circumstances, making punctuality essential for all assessments.

Before starting, candidates should check that every page of the question paper is printed correctly. They must ensure their names and assessment numbers are correctly written on the question paper or answer script, and sign and date the answer booklet.

Candidates should immediately inform the supervisor if a map or other material referred to in the questions has not been provided. They must also follow general instructions on the first page of each paper, including directions on the number of questions to answer.

Responses should be written on both sides of the paper without using the margins. Candidates should begin each separate part of a question on a fresh line, clearly write the question number in the left-hand margin and follow the numbering system used in the question paper.

All responses must be written in blue or black ink using a fountain pen or ballpoint pen. Erasable pens are not allowed.

Pencils should only be used for diagrams and shading multiple-choice answer sheets, while mathematical and drawing instruments should be brought for subjects that require them.

KNEC has further advised candidates to read each question carefully and avoid writing information that has not been requested, as no marks will be awarded for irrelevant responses. They should also manage their time carefully to ensure they have adequate time to answer all questions.
