Private Universities in Kenya Eligible for HELB in 2026

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has published an updated list of private universities eligible for funding through the Higher Education Loans Board

The list outlines accredited private universities where placed students can apply for HELB loans.

The update comes after the Portal was opened, allowing students to apply for university placement.

Under the new university funding model, students at private universities qualify for HELB but are not eligible for a government scholarship.

To apply, candidates should visit the KUCCPS website and select the student portal under the ‘portals’ option. 

After accessing the website, create an account by entering the required details.

Then log in to the portal using your KCSE Index number, Year of KCSE, and password, which should be your KCPE index number or birth certificate number.

Upon logging in, the candidate will access the dashboard, which displays the number of institutions and courses offered.

KUCCPS Updates List of Eligible Private Universities

According to KUCCPS, 31 private universities are listed under the private sponsorship category on the portal.

These institutions are accredited and recognized by the Commission for University Education.

Public Universities Approved for Government Scholarships

KUCCPS has also outlined 43 public universities eligible for both HELB and government scholarships through the Universities Fund.
