The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its system for the 2026 application to universities, colleges, and TVET institutions.
Students in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination class, as well as other Form Four leavers from previous years, can apply for both degree and TVET programs.
The online application opened on April 7, 2026, and will run until May 6, 2026.
However, when making applications, students often make mistakes that can prevent them from being placed in their preferred courses or lead to their applications being rejected.
Common Mistakes Students Make During KUCCPS Course Applications
Mistake No. 1: Filling the contact form with incorrect phone numbers.
Students who fill the contact form with incorrect details risk missing out on important KUCCPS communication that is sent to applicants periodically through the contacts they submitted.
Mistake No. 2: Leaving courses in the Course Basket without submitting an application.
Application does not end at the Course Basket. You must submit an application to be considered. To submit, click the “Application/Revision” button, then “Apply Now”.

KUCCPS Course Choices
Mistake No. 3: Applying for one program and leaving other choices blank.
Applicants may apply for up to four programs.
One can apply for a maximum of six degree courses and up to four for diploma, certificate, and artisan programs.
Applying for only one program limits your chances of placement to just one.
Applicants with an overall grade of C+ or above may make a maximum of 6 choices for degree programs, of which 1(a), 1(b), and 1(c) must be similar programs, and a maximum of 4 for diploma programs.
Students with an overall grade of C- and above will be allowed to make a maximum of 8 choices: 4 for diploma and 4 for craft certificate programs.
Applicants who scored a grade of D or above will be allowed to make a maximum of 8 choices: 4 for craft certificate programs and 4 for artisan certificate programs.
Meanwhile, those with an overall grade below D will be allowed to make up to 4 choices among artisan certificate programs.
Mistake No. 4: Applying for the same course in all the choices.
Students who apply for the same course across all their choices risk a lot, especially those interested in competitive courses such as Medicine, Nursing, and Engineering.
You should have different options to minimize the risk of missing out.

Mistake No. 5: Selecting only one course in one institution.
Students applying to only one course at one institution limit their chances of placement.
Mistake No. 6: Arranging courses randomly in the application form.
When applying, ensure you arrange the courses in your order of priority, with Choice No. 1 being your most preferred course and No. 4 being your least preferred. Otherwise, you could miss your preferred course.
Mistake No. 7: Using the M-Pesa transaction ID to submit an application instead of an eCitizen account.
Use the provided Account Number to submit the application. Do not use the M-PESA transaction code.
Use the eCitizen account to submit. (eCitizen account is indicated in the middle of the M-PESA payment confirmation SMS and is made up of alphabetical letters only.
If you make a mistake, repeat the process, but do not pay again. Instead, re-enter the account number from the previous payment and submit.
