Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will offer a special examination for candidates who missed to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Speaking during the release of 2023 KCPE results, Machogu said the 9,354 candidates who did not register for the 2023 KCPE exams will have the opportunity to sit for another paper in January 2024.
“The indicative figure we have at the moment for those who were not able to sit their examinations in 9,354 candidates.
We have given them the opportunity to sit for an examination in January 2024 so that they can be able to join form one,” said Machogu.
Further, the CS said the ministry will identify candidates who missed sitting for the 2023 KCPE to ensure they sit for the special examinations.
Besides, he explained that this will ensure that no candidate misses out in joining form one from the last 2023 KCPE examination cohort.
“The education ministry will conduct a thorough mapping of any of those who might have failed to sit their examinations this year in order to administer special examinations in January 2024,” he said.

Additionally, Machogu said the ministry ensured that all learners who were in class eight sat the 2023 examinations including those who never registered.
“As a result,205 candidates who had not been registered for KCPE examinations this year took advantage of the registration waiver which I issued to sit for their exams,” stated Machogu.
He revealed that the results of the 205 candidates was among the ones released on Thursday, November 23.
Machogu on Form One Transition
In addition, Machogu explained that the government has enough capacity to accommodate all the candidates who sat for the 2023 exams.
Therefore, Machogu asked parents to take advantage of the one hundred percent transition to enroll their students in form one.
Furthermore, he assured the country that the government is fully prepared for a seamless transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
