Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that placement of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations (KCPE) candidates will begin on Monday, November 27.
While presiding over the release of the 2023 KCPE results at Mtihani House on Thursday, November 23, Machogu also noted that the placement process would end within a period of two weeks.
According to the CS, the move will allow parents and guardians enough time to prepare the candidates for joining High School in 2024.
Also, he noted that all the over 1.4 million students who sat for the national examinations that began on November 30, would transition to form one.
“We urge, parents, guardians and all stakeholders to ensure that all students transit to secondary school level,” he stated.

How to Check for Individual Results
The CS also announced that the best candidate for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams scored 428 marks out of a possible 500.
In addition, the CS directed that the KCPE results could be accessed through a short code message at 40054.
“The 2023 KCPE examinations candidates are urged to collect their results from their respective examinations centers.
“Individual candidate results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number followed by the Initials KCPE through a short message service SMS to 40054,” he stated.

Machogu on Those Who Missed the Exams
On the other hand, Machogu stated that the Ministry of Education would administer a special KCPE examination in January for some candidates who failed to sit KCPE.
He added that the Ministry will conduct through mapping to identify any pupils who could have been lefty out.
Notably, the 2023 KCPE exam is the last in Kenya’s history, as the education system fully implements the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
Also, he stated that 205 learners who had not been registered were allowed to sit the exams in view of the fact that the 2023 cohort would be the last ever in KCPE history.
In the results, English and Kenya Sign Language were the most improved subjects compared to the previous exam.
Machogu on Details of Marks Scored
At the same time, the CS noted that 352, 782 candidates scored between 300 – 399 marks while 658,278 students scored 200 – 299 marks.
In Addition, students who scored between 100 – 199 marks were 383,025 candidates.
On the gender comparison of students who sat for the exams, Machogu noted that there was an improvement recorded in the number of female students.
Further, he stated that other counties had more female students who did the exams compared to male students.
“There were 721,544 (51.30) per cent were male candidates while female candidates were 685, 017 (48.70) per cent. 205 candidates who were not registered we allowed to sit for the examinations,” he added.
