Arnold Origi is one of Kenya’s longest-serving football exports, building his career in Norway after leaving the Kenyan Premier League in 2007 and played for clubs in Norway, Finland, and Sweden and represented Harambee Stars for 15 years, from 2005 to 2020.

Early Life and Education

Arnold Origi Otieno was born on November 15, 1983, in Nairobi, Kenya.

He grew up in a family with a strong football background, as his father, Austin Origi, was a defender for Gor Mahia and a former captain of the Kenya national team.

Arnold is also the cousin of former Belgium and Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

Divock’s father, former Harambee Stars striker Mike Okoth Origi, was Austin’s younger brother.

In a 2017 interview, he said he didn’t often watch his father play because he was young, but he regularly watched his uncle Mike play for Kenya.

He said the experience inspired him to pursue a professional career in Europe.

Origi began his football development in Kenya before joining Mathare United’s senior team in 2001.

His early path differed from Divock’s, who developed in Belgium.

There is no widely documented public record identifying the primary school, secondary school or post-secondary institution attended by Arnold Origi.

Mathare United (2001-2006)

Arnold Origi began his professional career with Mathare United in 2001 after progressing through the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) development system.

The young goalkeeper quickly established himself as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in the Kenyan Premier League, making approximately 110 appearances during his six-year stay at the club.

His performances at Mathare United earned him recognition at national level and opened the door to opportunities abroad.

Tusker FC (2006)

In 2006, Origi joined Tusker FC, one of Kenya’s most successful clubs. Although his stay lasted only one season, he made over 50 appearances and further enhanced his reputation as a reliable goalkeeper.

Moss FK, Norway (2007-2011)

In 2007, Origi moved to Norway and signed for Moss FK, becoming one of the few Kenyan goalkeepers to venture into European football, making 80 league appearances.

Fredrikstad FK (Loan, 2011)

In 2011, Origi joined Norwegian top-flight side Fredrikstad FK on loan, where he gained experience in the country’s highest division.

Ullensaker/Kisa (2012)

After leaving Moss, Origi signed for Ullensaker/Kisa (Ull/Kisa) in 2012. He enjoyed an impressive season, making 29 league appearances.

Lillestrøm SK (2013-2017)

Origi’s most successful club spell came at Norwegian giants Lillestrøm SK, whom he joined in 2013. Over five seasons, he became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and made around 150 league appearances.

Sandnes Ulf and Kongsvinger (2018)

After leaving Lillestrøm, Origi played for Sandnes Ulf before moving to Kongsvinger later in the same year to seek regular playing time.

HIFK Helsinki, Finland (2019-2021)

Origi moved to Finland and joined HIFK, where he made more than 30 appearances for the Finnish side.

Hødd IL (2021)

In 2021, Origi returned to Norway with Hødd IL.

In addition to playing, he began transitioning into coaching responsibilities, preparing for life after his playing career.

Östersunds FK, Sweden (2023-Present)

In 2023, Origi joined Swedish club Östersunds FK as a player and goalkeeping coach.

International Career (2005-2021)

Arnold Origi made his debut for the Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars, in 2005 and went on to enjoy an international career that spanned more than 15 years.

During that period, he became one of Kenya’s most experienced goalkeepers, earning 48 senior caps and representing the country in numerous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Throughout his international career, Origi competed for the number-one jersey with several notable Kenyan goalkeepers, including Patrick Matasi and Boniface Oluoch.

Family and Net Worth

No verified public record of Arnold Origi’s net worth exists.

Unlike many modern footballers, he has kept details about his wife, children, and personal relationships away from the public eye.

Verified public information about his marital status or immediate family is limited, as he rarely discusses them in media interviews.
