Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Thursday, November 23, released 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education – KCPE results.
The highest score in the 2023 KCPE was 428 marks.
However, Machogu did not disclose the identity or the school where the top candidate sat the exam.
According to the CS, English, English Composition, and Kenyan sign language all recorded significant improvement compared to KCPE 2022.
In addition, female candidates performed better in the languages than their male counterparts.
The remaining subjects, however, recorded a slight decline in performance.
The CS further announced that his Ministry would administer a special KCPE examination in January for some candidates who failed to sit KCPE.
According to him, 205 learners who had not been registered were allowed to sit the exams in view of the fact that the 2023 cohort would be the last ever in KCPE history.
However, the Ministry will conduct through mapping to identify any pupils who could have been lefty out.
Over 1.4 million candidates sat for the 2022 exam in centers spread across the country.
Njegere further announced that the council prioritized marking of KCPE exams and as such candidates who sat the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) would have to wait.

Curtains fall for KCPE
According to Njengere, 39 cohorts have sat the KCPE examination since 1985 when it was introduced.
The KCPE exanimation, the KNEC Chief added, had been offered to over 26 million Kenyans and a total of 103,000 non-citizens.
On her part, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia thanked teachers for having managed the administration and commitment over the years the KCPE had been in place.
Officials from the Ministry have in the past promised that candidates would be placed before Christmas to allow parents to prepare ahead of January 2024.
The exams marked a historic end to the 8-4-4 era as the 2023 candidates were the last to sit the KCPE and ushering in fully the era of the Competence-Based-Curriculum.

Machogu had in an earlier statement affirmed that there were no cases of malpractices or cheating throughout the exam period- which was an improvement from last year’s 252 cases reported in 2022.
According to the Ministry, only a few cases of attempted cheating had been reported in exam period.
