Popular KMTC Courses and Their Minimum Requirements

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is a State Corporation established through an Act of Parliament under the Ministry of Health.

Over the years, KMTC has become a popular training institution for healthcare professionals, who are marketable in the country and abroad. 

The College has 72 Campuses strategically located in various parts of the country.

Popular Kmtc Courses And Their Minimum Requirements

KMTC churns out about 6000 graduates every year for both private and public health sector.

Below are some of the popular KMTC courses and their minimum requirements.

Faculty of Nursing

Applicants can choose to pursue a Certificate or diploma in Community Health Nursing in any nursing school within the country.

There are varieties of nursing courses under this faculty.

They include, Kenya Registered Nursing, Mid wifery, Registered Nursing Mental Health & Psychiatry and Health Counseling.

They all take a duration of three years and can be enrolled in any selected KMTC campus.

In addition, requirements for certificate in community health nurse include minimum Grade of C (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Other requirements are, C- in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences, D+ in   Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Mathematics.

At the same time, requirements for diploma in this course are, a mean grade of C, together with a C in English, Kiswahili and D in Biology/ Biological Sciences.

Also, an individual with a dream to pursue nursing needs to have a C in Religious Studies or History.

The duration for the diploma course is two years. 

KMTC Medical Engineering Course 

Under this course, a student can choose to pursue a higher diploma in Diagonostic equipment, dialysis and therapeutic equipment.

It is a 24-month course, and learners can enroll as a part time course in any KMTC school within the country.

The requirements for this course include, Diploma in Medical Engineering, or equivalent from a recognized institution.

Additionally, learners can apply for a three-year Diploma in Medical Engineering course in any selected KMTC Campus.

One must have a minimum Grade of C, with C in English, Kiswahili, Mathematics and Physics/Physical Sciences to pursue this course.

Others include C- in Biology/Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Electricity, Metal Work or Technical Drawing.

Also, individual can study a Certificate in Medical Engineering in any selected nursing Campus for two years.

The requirements are, Mean Grade of C-(minus), C- in English and Kiswahili, D in Mathematics and D- in Physics/Physical Sciences.

Also, one needs to have a D in Chemistry, Biology/Biological Sciences, Electricity, Metal Work or Technical Drawing.

Certificate in Health Records and Information
Minimum Requirements

The minimum grade for health record course is a C- (minus). 

Other requirements are, C- in English or Kiswahili, D in Biology/Biological Sciences, D- in Mathematics and D+ in any one of the following: – Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, General Science, Computer Studies, agriculture, Home Science, Economics, Geography, Commerce or Business Studies.

The duration for this course is also two years.

Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology

Requirements

Minimum Grade of C (stand), C in English or Kiswahili and C- in Mathematics D+ in Biology/Biological Sciences.

Also, one needs to have a C- in any one of the following: Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Agriculture, Home Science, Economics, Geography, Commerce or Business Studies.

This course is offered in any KMTC school and runs for a duration of 3 years.

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Admission requirements

The minimum requirement for this course is a Mean Grade of C.

C in English or Kiswahili, Biological Sciences and Chemistry/Physical Sciences are among the necessary needs.

Also, individuals are supposed to have a C score in Mathematics.

This course takes a duration of three years.

Higher Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy

Requirements.

Diploma in Pharmacy OR Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from any institution recognized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

One needs to have a three-year Post Qualification Working Experience in the Medical Field and Registered with the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.

Applicants must have met the Minimum Entry Requirements for a Diploma in Renal Pharmacy.

Moreover, the duration of the course is 24 months. One can study in Nairobi and Mombasa depending on their area of preference.

Diploma in Pharmacy
Requirements

According to KMTC, applicants must have a minimum Grade of C (plain) in KCSE.

Other requirements are a C score in English or Kiswahili and Chemistry/Physical Science and Biology or Biological Sciences.

Additionally, one should have a mean grade of C in any one of the following: – Physics/Physical Sciences or Mathematics.

The duration for diploma in pharmacy is 3 years in any KMTC campus.

Department of physiotherapy

Minimum Requirements

One can choose to enroll with either higher Diploma in orthopedic Manual Therapy or Women Health and Pelvic Rehabilitation course.

Necessary requirements include a BSc. Physiotherapy or Diploma in Physiotherapy.

One should also be a female Physiotherapists registered with Physiotherapy Council
of Kenya (PCK) or other Physiotherapy Regulatory Bodies.

The duration for this course is 24 months and can be done within Nairobi KMTC as a part time course.

Diploma in Physiotherapy

Additionally, one can choose to enroll in diploma in physiotherapy.

The course takes a duration of three years.

Minimum requirements for this study are, Mean Grade of C plus C in English or Kiswahili and C- in Biology.

Also, a C- score in any two of the following: -Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics/Physical or Science are also part of this course needs.

You can apply for KMTC placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service – KUCCPS.
