St. Joseph’s Seminary, also known as St. Joseph’s Seminary Molo Senior School, is a Catholic boys’ boarding school.

St. Joseph’s Seminary serves as a junior seminary, offering standard secondary education and preparation for minors who may be called the the priesthood.

The boys’ boarding school in Molo is under the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, with the school emphasizing academic excellence, faith, discipline, and character.

“A minor Seminary is not just a basic institution; its core purpose is to help the church in training young men to transit the priesthood call. Outside this purpose, others who don’t pursue the priesthood are encouraged throughout their formation to be responsible men and patriots,” St. Joseph Junior Seminary, Molo notes.

St. Joseph’s Seminary Location and Contacts

St. Joseph’s  Seminary is located in Baraka, approximately 4 to 7 kilometers from Molo town along the Molo-Mau Summit road at Baraka Farm.

Potential candidates who wish to enroll in the school can use the address P.O. Box 301-20106, Molo, to contact the institution.

Alternative potential candidates can use the phone numbers 0711140868, 0711165199, 0704603297 to contact Reverend Father Samuel Nyonje, the head of the institution.

History

The seminary learning institution was established in the mid-1980s within the Nakuru Diocese to assist young men in transitioning to the priesthood.

Since its establishment, the school has been headed by priests and is currently under the management of Reverend Father Samuel Nyonje, the Rector.

In addition, the ownership and overall management of the institution is by the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru.

Early Admission Process

Selection and placement for study at the institution used to be based on students’ performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

After successful selection, the selected students undergo interviews to verify eligibility.

During the admission process, the students were required to provide a Baptismal card, birth certificate, KCPE results slip, primary leaving certificate, and a medical check-up form from a recognized health institution.

Upon reporting to the institution, students are required to submit completely filled admission letters, learning facilities, and boarding requirements.

The school, however, provides all the admitted students with school uniforms that are available at the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru bookshop.

As of 2026, the admission process for the Grade 10 students is ongoing, with booking still active.

Despite the school not having an updated school fees structure, the 2024 school fees structure indicates that students paid KSh 73,800 annually; that is subject to change as of 2026.

Senior School CBC Transitioning

With the introduction of the competency-based curriculum (CBC) system by the Ministry of Education, students transitioning from the primary education to the senior secondary school in Grades 10 to 12 are selected through the selection system under the Ministry.

Through the Ministry of Education’s official portal, student selection is based on the five pillars of placement: choice, merit, psychometric tests, equity, and school capacity.

Learners transitioning to senior schools are required to have sat the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) examination, which accounts for 60% of the placement weight.

In addition, through the Ministry, learners can select up to 12 schools based on the pathways, with the selection including 3-day schools that are locally based, 3 boarding schools in the county, and 6 boarding schools in other counties.

During the selection of schools they wish to attend, candidates are required to choose from the pathways by the Ministry, including STEM, social sciences, and arts and sports science.

Further, students under the CBC learning system can access their admission letters through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) using their assessment number.

After the placement, the CBC learning system allows the changing of candidates’ schools only once, with the action being irreversible and subject to the Ministry of Education approval.

KCSE Performance

In 2012, during the Kenya Certificate Secondary Education examination, the cohort had a mean grade of 63.

Further, the 2024 KCSE cohort improved the mean score to 9.014, and in 2025 the mean score improved to 9.77.
