Simeon Nyakundi, a student at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), has secured an internship opportunity in Brazil.
In a statement on March 28, 2025, the university stated that Simeon would join a team of experts to carry out research regarding the adoption of building constructive strategies to enhance energy efficiency.

“His rich portfolio impressed a league of panelists from the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) who selected him among the few young scholars exhibiting innovation and passion in their fields of practice,” read the statement.
Further, the university, through the International Liaison Office at TU-K, has encouraged students in STEM to take more than 77 internships available abroad.

Nyakundi has participated in conferences and competitions, including NICE Labs 50/50 and Hackathon – Exploring Visual Cultures.
He also featured at the Kenya Airways for the Customer Excellence Centre Wallpaper where he won top recognition for creativity, relevance, and aesthetic impact.

Simeon has been vocal on publications that explain the creation of an AI-assisted artwork, revealing the AI’s potential.

Academic Journey
He joined TUK in 2021 when he enrolled for a Bachelor of Technology in Interior Design program. Nyakundi would then develop interest in intersection of technology and creative design.
Additionally, he is passionate about sustainable design solutions and eager to learn how AI-driven innovations are reshaping the landscape of media and visual culture.
He has engaged in projects that explore applications of AI in enhancing environmental design, focusing on how technology can foster sustainable and aesthetically appealing spaces.
During his academic journey, he developed skills in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, art design, and developing concepts to creative reality.

International Internships Through IAESTE
The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is a global non-governmental, non-profit organisation that works in a consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
It is also affiliated with the UN DPI and UNESCO.
The internship is a paid program abroad that helps students gain professional experience and cross-cultural skills.
Employers and universities gain access to talented international interns who bring new impulses and insights to their business or research. IAESTE provides primarily STEM internships.
It has over 100 countries that serve the IAESTE internships. Over 371,000 students have benefited from it since 1948. In addition, it is a home for over 3,000 organizations that host interns.
