Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed Kyiv’s position on the ceasefire, stating that Ukraine will respond in equal measure to any violations by Russian forces.
In a statement on April 11, Zelenskyy said Ukraine would adhere to the ceasefire as long as Russia halts strikes across air, land, and sea, warning that any attacks would trigger a matching response from Ukrainian forces.
“Today, we defined the parameters of our response to any potential violations of the ceasefire by the Russian army. We all understand who we are dealing with. Ukraine will adhere to the silence regime and act exclusively in a mirror fashion,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that the Ukrainian army remains on high alert and prepared for any developments along the frontline, even as Kyiv continues to push for de-escalation.
Zelenskyy Outlines Ceasefire Conditions
Zelenskyy further revealed that Ukraine has proposed multiple ceasefire arrangements to Moscow, expressing hope that the Easter period could provide an opportunity for a temporary truce and improved safety.
He added that discussions have been held with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on how troops should operate under ceasefire conditions, including the possibility of extending the truce beyond Easter if both sides comply.
The statement comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 32-hour ceasefire in the war with Ukraine to mark Orthodox Easter.
The pause in fighting is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. Moscow time (13:00 GMT) on April 11 and will remain in effect until the end of April 12.
