Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has declared her Net Worth.
Dr. Nyambura Ndung’u was speaking on Friday, August 2, 2024, before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments where she announced that she is worth Ksh95.3 million.
She noted that her wealth is made up of movable assets, immovable assets, Treasury bills and bonds, Sacco shares, and an extra amount equivalent of cash.
“My net worth is Ksh95, 323,000. It is made up of movable assets worth Ksh5.5 million, immovable assets worth Ksh54 million, and Treasury bills and bonds worth Ksh25.6 million. I have Sacco shares (Ksh1 million) and cash equivalent of about Ksh11.5 million,” stated Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u.
For the movable assets, the nominee noted that she owns only one car, adding that the immovable assets comprise of a house and several lands.
President Ruto nominated Dr. Nyambura Ndung’u, who brings a cutting-edge perspective to the Ministry of ICT, to replace former CS Eliud Owalo.

Ndung’u, an information scientist with over 20 years of work experience, is currently the lead Kenya Partner for Research ICT Africa.

The Ministry of ICT CS nominee has immense experience in Internet Governance, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, and Data Governance.
Her professional roles have seen her serve as a Senior Research Manager at the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership and a Senior Regulatory and Internet Governance Expert at the African Union Commission (AUC).
Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has hugely contributed to the African Union’s Digital Transformation strategy for education, health, and agriculture sectors.
The Cabinet nominee’s contributions at the AU extend to the development of the AU Data Policy Framework and educational initiatives across the continent.
Notably, Dr. Nyambura Ndung’u played a key role in coordinating a six-module online Internet Governance curriculum used by 30 national and regional schools across Africa.

She also played a key role in developing a 10-module course for the Pan African University Institute, tailoring it to the e-skills of participants.
Other roles and Educational Background
On the other hand, Dr. Margaret Ndung’u has worked on national and regional projects funded by IDRC, World Bank, NEPAD, International Trade Center, and Vodafone, among others, with a keen interest in ICT research.
She worked as a consultant at the ICT Authority in the Education Ministry, and as a Senior Research Manager in Gender Justice in Stem Research in Africa (GeJuSTA), prior to her nomination.
Dr. Ndung’u’s academic path includes a Post-Doctorate Fellowship in Innovation Value Chain from Tshwane university of Technology.
She also has a PhD in information Systems from the University of Nairobi (UoN) having acquired a master’s degree from the same Institution.
Prior to that, she acquired a bachelor’s degree in information science from Moi University.
