The Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Salim Mvurya Mgala has declared his Net Worth.
Mvurya while speaking on Saturday, August 3, 2024, before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, announced that he is worth Ksh158 million.
The former Kwale County governor said he has amassed a total amount of about Ksh38 million since his last vetting as CS for the Ministry of Mining in October 2022, an increase from the Ksh120 million he disclosed back then.
“I am worth Ksh158,000,000, I have given the breakdown,” stated Mvurya.
Salim Mvurya Mgala, who served as the Kwale County governor for two terms between 2013 and 2022, was nominated by President William Ruto as the CS for the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry (MITI).
Mvurya was among nominees announced by President Ruto who made it back to the Cabinet having been dismissed by the Head of State when he dissolved Cabinet.

Prior to his dismissal from Cabinet, Mvurya served as the CS for Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, a post he assumed upon approval by Parliament in October 2022.
Salim Mvurya Mgala’s Educational Background & Career
The nominee attended Mavirivirini Primary School in 1979 before joining Mpeketoni Secondary School between 1987 to 1990.
Upon completing his Secondary education, Mvurya proceeded to Egerton University for his first degree where he graduated with Bachelors in Agri-Business Management in 1996.

The former Mining CS also holds a master’s degree in Participation, Power and Social Change from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex in England, United Kingdom (UK).
On the other hand, the CS nominee has certificates in NGO management from MSTDC- Arusha, Tanzania. Mvurya possesses strong leadership and management skills backed by 17 years of development experience.
Experience
Salim Mvurya has 17 years of social Development and leadership experience. In the year 2008, he had an opportunity to be the Acting Country Director for Plan International Kenya.
Other organizations he has worked for include Aga Khan Foundation and Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development (an institute of Egerton University).
His working experience has enabled him to gain experiences in staff management, program management, resource mobilization and fundraising, operational management, financial management as well as influencing policy at local, national and international level.
Over the years he has designed and implemented development programs in Education, Health, Livelihoods, Child Protection and Democratic Governance centered on citizens participation in decision making processes and policy advocacy.
Some of the programs he implemented were funded by DFID, USAID, Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Netherlands and Finland, and NORAD, Norway.
If approved by parliament, Mvurya will replace former Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano whose name was also among a list of people announced by President Ruto as nominees for different ministries.
