President William Ruto has sacked all Cabinet Secretaries (CS) and Attorney General Justin Muturi after dissolving his Cabinet.
President Ruto made the announcement on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at State House Nairobi in a State of the nation address.
The Head of State however noted that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will not be affected by the dismissal of CSs.
“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” said Ruto
According to Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will also not be affected by the dissolving of the Cabinet.
Ruto said that following the decision, he will engage in consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans both in public and private sectors with the aim of setting up a broad-based government.

“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, with the aim of setting up a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and expediting the necessary, urgent and irreversible, implementation of radical programs to deal with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminate wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and slay the dragon of corruption consequently making the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient,” said Ruto.

Govt Changes
Last week on Friday, the Head of State had hinted that he would soon make crucial changes in his government, in response to demands made during the anti-government protests which were led by youths.

One anticipated move was a Cabinet reshuffle, which young protesters have been demanding for.
The address was Ruto’s fifth State of the Nation and public address in just three weeks since the anti-tax and anti-government protests rocked Kenya.
Ruto’s dissolving of the Cabinet came after PCS Musalia Mudavadi chaired the 2nd National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) meeting earlier on Thursday at the Kenya School of Government (KSG).
In a statement, the Office of the PCS said that the members took stock of key milestones reached by the government regarding the monitoring and implementation of government development projects, performance in various sectors and the overall wholistic service delivery approach to citizens.
The meeting also adopted the status report on the national agenda moving into the first quarter of the 2024/2025 Financial year.
