Nakuru County is ranked among the top counties in registering under the Social Health Authority (SHA), according to the Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
In Nakuru, over 208 SHA-approved health care facilities were actively recorded as connected to the SHA portal, out of the 691 health facilities in the county.
Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital was among facilities topping the SHA payout list with over 132,000 hospital visits, with 841,000 residents in Nakuru out of the 2.16 million population being registered to SHA, according to Aden Duale.
“Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital had KSh 2.4 billion in approved SHA claims, and out of 691 health facilities, 208 were connected to the SHA portal and actively transacting,” Aden Duale stated during the official rollout of SHA and County Taifa Care Program at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Under the level 5, SHA has approved the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital Nakuru, while at level 4, the county has Naivasha Sub-County Hospital and the Provincial General Hospital Annex, Nakuru.
Further, under the SHA health care insurance, level 3 facilities, including the Egerton University Medical Department, a level 3B facility, and the Egerton University Funeral Home, a level 3A facility, are approved for SHA insurance coverage.
Bahati Dispensary, Nakuru, and Sururu Kaptich Dispensary are level 2 SHA-approved dispensaries in the county.
Nakuru SHA-Approved Private and Faith-Based Hospitals
Under the private hospitals in Nakuru, SHA has approved level 5 facilities, including Mediheal Hospital and the Nakuru Specialist Hospital Ltd, to offer surgical and specialized inpatient care.
In addition to the Level 5 facilities under the SHA framework, the county has over 20 Level 4 facilities, including Evans Sunrise Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Nursing and Maternity Home, Mulemi Nursing Home, Valley Hospital Limited, St Elizabeth Medical Center, Nairobi Women’s Hospital Nakuru, Ndonyo Healthcare in Kwa Muhia, Kidney Solutions Clinic and the Nairobi Women’s Hospital Naivasha.

The Nursing and maternity homes include Mt. Longonot Medical Services, Esther Memorial Maternity and Nursing Home, AAR Health Services Nakuru, Baraka Maternity and Nursing Home, Afraha Maternity and Nursing Home, KenGen Mvuke Clinic, Maai Mahiu Maternity Hospital Ltd, among others.
