Kwale County has three government hospitals, eight health centers, and sixty-four dispensaries, with the average distance to the nearest health facility in the county being seven kilometers, instead of the required three kilometers.
Additionally, the county has two private hospitals in Diani town, and the SHA approves several of the county’s health care facilities and clinics.
“The County has a total of three (3) government hospitals, eight health centers, and sixty- four (64) dispensaries located in Msambweni, Kwale, and Kinango constituencies. The doctor-to-nurse population ratios stand at 1:76,741 and 1:3,133, respectively. In addition, the county has two (2) private hospitals, both located in Diani town,” the county government of Kwale notes.
Among the government public health facilities, the Mnyenzeni Model Health Center is SHA-approved to offer services as a level 3B facility.
In the private hospital, the SHA has approved Diani Beach Hospital as a level 5 facility. In contrast, Kwale District Eye Center, Palm Beach Hospital, and Kinodo Kwetu Hospital are SHA-approved level 4 facilities.
According to the SHA approval guidelines, the level 4 approved facilities offer essential surgical, maternity, and inpatient services to patients in the county.

In addition to approving the private level 3A medical centers under the SHA insurance health insurance system, Kwale County has approved nursing and maternity level 3B facilities.
The facilities include the Ginger Hospital Limited, Diani Beach Hospital, Ukunda Clinic, Nice View Medical Center, Diani Beach Hospital Kwale Clinic, Tudor Healthcare, Bakari Medical Clinic, Qatar Medical Clinic, St. Cornels Medical Center Limited, Palm Beach Hospital Kinango Clinic, and Rayaan Hospital Diani Limited.
Further, the county has approved medical clinics and dispensaries under the level healthcare facilities that offer primary and outpatient services to residents in Kwale County.

In Kwale, the SHA-approved medical clinics include Aqswaa Medical Clinic, Perani Medical Clinic, Bahari Medical Clinic, Dima Mwanganza Clinic, Royal Run Medical Clinic, Lungalunga Grace Medical Clinic, Pendo Medical Center, Precious Life Medical Service, Vuga Medical Clinic, Kibaoni Barakah Medical Center, Maledi St. Joseph Medical Clinic, Riziki Medical Clinic, Living Waters Medical Clinic, and Fujita Medical Clinic.
Other notable health facilities in the level two categories approved under the SHA approved healthcare insurance include the HIV AIDS People Alliance of Kenya, University Way Medical Services, Mwamzo Medical Clinic Limited, R4C Kenya Medical Services, and Kichaka Simba Dispensary.
