Kenyan actor Emmanuel Mugo has landed a role in the second season of Hollywood’s spy thriller The Agency.
This marks a major milestone in a career that has taken him from Kenya’s theatre stages to international productions.
Emmanuel Mugo announced that he has joined the cast of the highly anticipated espionage drama, becoming one of the Kenyan actors featured in the series, which selected Kenya as one of its principal filming locations.
In his reaction, the actor described the opportunity as “an absolute privilege.”
His latest role adds to an acting portfolio that has steadily grown over the past 17 years. He is best known for his roles in Pillow Talk (2020), Mission to Rescue (2021) and as a stunt performer in the first season of Netflix’s Sense8 (2015).
Kenya Takes Centre Stage in The Agency
Beyond Mugo’s casting, The Agency places Kenya in the global spotlight after choosing the country as one of its key filming destinations.
Production crews shot scenes across Nairobi and Kisumu, showcasing Kenya’s landscapes, local talent and production capacity to millions of viewers around the world.
The series stars Hollywood heavyweight Michael Fassbender as undercover CIA operative Martian, who becomes embroiled in a dangerous mole hunt while navigating a high-stakes international political crisis.
Produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker George Clooney and longtime collaborator Grant Heslov, The Agency ranks among the biggest spy dramas currently on television.
Actress Jodi Turner-Smith described Kenya as one of the most outstanding filming locations, praising the country’s breathtaking scenery, welcoming people and favourable weather, which she said made the entire filming experience memorable.

From Travelling Theatre to Television
Long before Hollywood came calling, Emmanuel Mugo was building his acting career on Kenyan stages.
He made his acting debut in 2009 after joining Jawabu Quality Productions, a travelling theatre group that introduced him to professional acting and helped shape his performance skills.
As his experience grew, he transitioned into television, becoming a familiar face in several popular Kenyan productions, including Tahidi High, This Is Life, Selina, Sue na Johnnie, Ma Empress and Kina.
His ability to combine acting with physically demanding stunt work soon made him one of Kenya’s most versatile performers.

Looking Beyond Acting
Away from the camera, Mugo continues to broaden his expertise in filmmaking.
