About the Commission on Revenue Allocation
The Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) is an independent constitutional body that makes recommendations on how revenue raised by the national government should be shared fairly, both between the national and county governments, and among the 47 county governments.
The commission also advises on public finance issues, including the financing and financial management of county governments, and promotes fiscal responsibility at both levels of government.
In carrying out its work, the CRA considers constitutional criteria such as population, poverty levels, development needs, and the need to support marginalized areas, and develops revenue-sharing formulas that guide the distribution of funds each year.
Additionally, Parliament must consult the commission before passing laws that affect revenue sharing or county finances.
CRA ensures that public resources are allocated in a structured, transparent, and equitable manner across the country.
