Mvita constituency UDA candidate Omar Shallo and Tudor ward MCA candidate Samir Bhalo were arrested after chaos erupted at the Tudor Hall polling station.
The two were taken to the Makupa Police Station, where they were being held.
Voting at the Tudor Village Hall polling station in Mvita, was temporarily disrupted after chaos erupted following allegations of vote fraud.
Voters from rival political camps hurled stones at each other before police intervened.
During the ensuing chaos ,a National Youth Service (NYS) officer was injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.
Shallo said that he received information that some voters were allowed to have more than one ballot paper.
He said his agents had notified him about the alleged poll malpractice at the station
“Upon reaching there, we found out that some fishy activities were going on. People started attacking us,”Shallo said.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the arrests and the incident
Shallo was to cast his vote at the Fort Jesus polling station .
It is not clear if the two will be charged for committing any electoral offence
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Mombasa Returning Officer Swalha Yusuf was forced to intervene and calm the situation.
