Innocent Momanyi Obiri is a Kenyan politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Bobasi Constituency in Kisii County.
He was elected in 2017 under the People’s Democratic Party, but later associated with Wiper Democratic Movement, under which he retained his seat in subsequent elections
Educational background of Innocent Obiri
Innocent Obiri began his education at Nyamagwa Boys Primary School, where he studied between 1969 and 1974.
He completed his primary level and obtained his Certificate of Primary Education.
After primary school, he joined The Aga Khan High School in Mombasa. In 1975, he earned the East Africa Certificate of Education (EACE) Division I, marking a strong academic performance.
He later proceeded to Chogoria Boys’ High School for his A-levels. Between 1978 and 1979, he sat for the Kenya Certificate of Advanced Education (KACE) and attained three principal passes and one subsidiary pass.
Obiri then advanced to the University of Nairobi in 1981. He pursued a degree in Building Economics and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts.
Career life
After graduating from the University of Nairobi in 1985 with a degree in Building Economics, Innocent Obiri began his professional career in the construction sector.
In 1986, he was appointed as a Quantity Surveyor at the Ministry of Public Works, where he gained experience in overseeing government building projects.
In 1989, Obiri transitioned to the private sector. He joined Mutiso Menezes International, a consultancy firm, as a Quantity Surveyor, where he handled large-scale private projects.
By 1992, he had advanced to the role of Project Manager at Mbo-I-Kamiti Farmers Company, where he supervised land development projects.
In 1994, he became the Managing Director of Obiri & Company, his own consultancy firm specialising in quantity surveying and project management. Through this role, he contributed to various construction and development projects across Kenya.
Obiri also ventured into leadership and politics.
In 2007, he contested for a parliamentary seat in Bobasi Constituency but was unsuccessful. However, he remained active in community service and local development initiatives.
In 2013, he made a comeback in politics and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Bobasi Constituency under the ODM party.

He retained his seat in the 2017 elections, serving until 2022.
During his tenure, he focused on infrastructure, education, and healthcare projects within his constituency.
