Abdikadir Hussein Mohammed is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Lagdera Constituency under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Early life and educational background
Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed was born in 1970 in Mandera County, where he began his schooling at Mandera Primary School, completing his Certificate of Primary Education in 1983.
In 1984, he joined Alliance High School, one of Kenya’s most prestigious national schools, and completed his secondary education in 1987 with outstanding results.
In 1988, he entered the University of Nairobi to study law and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree.
The following year, in 1993, he joined the Kenya School of Law, where he completed his diploma in legal practice and was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1994.
Seeking to deepen his knowledge, Abdikadir applied for and won a Chevening Scholarship in 1999, which enabled him to study at Harvard Law School in the United States.
He earned his Master of Laws (LL.M) in 2000, specialising in constitutional law and governance.
He later enhanced his qualifications with an MBA from the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) between 2010 and 2013 and obtained additional certificates in democracy and leadership from institutions including Merquetee University, USA, and KSG (2014).
Career
Professional career
Abdikadir’s professional career began in 1994 when he joined Kaplan & Stratton Advocates as an associate in the corporate and commercial department.
In 1998, he left the firm to join the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission as a legal officer, playing an active role in the early stages of constitutional reform.
After completing his master’s studies, Abdikadir returned to Kenya in 2001 and founded Abdikadir & Company Advocates, focusing on governance and public interest litigation.
Between 2004 and 2006, he worked as a consultant for institutions such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank, specializing in areas including corporate reorganization, anti-counterfeit enforcement, Islamic banking, regulatory reform, and public institution restructuring.

Between 2010 and 2017, he held a directorial enforcement role at the Anti-Counterfeit Authority and worked with both NHIF and Techno Mobile in managerial capacities.
Political career
Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed entered elective politics in the 2007 general election. Running under Safina Party, he won the parliamentary seat for Mandera Central Constituency, defeating the incumbent Billow Kerrow.
As a newly elected Member of Parliament, he was appointed chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional Review.
For his leadership in constitutional reform, he received the prestigious German Africa Prize in 2011.
Following the promulgation of the new constitution, he was appointed chair of the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee, responsible for ensuring that the constitutional provisions were enacted faithfully.
After a gap from elective office, Abdikadir returned to Parliament in the 2022 general elections, winning the seat for Lagdera Constituency on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
In this capacity, he continues to serve as chair of the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee, guiding the body responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of constitutional reforms.

Beyond his committee responsibilities, he has championed development in Lagdera, including promoting technical and vocational education by initiating the establishment of TVET institutions in Benane and Modogashe, which aim to empower youth with practical skills.
