Cynthia Muge Jepkosgei, alias Chepkonyol, is a Kenyan politician and the current Woman Representative for Nandi County, under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Early life and education
Cynthia Jepkosgei Muge was born around 1993 in Kipsirichoi Village, Emgwen Constituency, Nandi County.
As the eldest among six siblings, she was raised in a close-knit family in rural Kenya, and she grew up in Kilibwoni Ward.
Her formal education began at Kapchemoiywo Primary School, where she studied from 1998 to 2007 and successfully completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
She then advanced to Moi Girls Isinya, attending from 2008 to 2011, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Muge’s academic journey continued at the University of Nairobi in 2012, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 2016.
Not one to stop there, she pursued further education with a Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management, also from the University of Nairobi, between 2018 and 2020, refining her leadership and strategic planning capacities.
Career
After completing her undergraduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Nairobi in 2016, Cynthia Jepkosgei Muge began her career in consultancy and community development.
Her technical training in planning exposed her to challenges facing rural communities, particularly in infrastructure, resource allocation, and sustainable development.
In 2017, at only 24 years old, Muge made history as the youngest elected female Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kenya when she was elected to represent Kilibwoni Ward in Nandi County.
Running as an independent candidate, she overcame stiff competition and the prevailing perception that politics was a preserve of older, more experienced leaders.
As MCA, she focused on education bursaries, empowerment of women and youth groups, and infrastructure development in her ward.
Her style of leadership was marked by inclusivity and frequent engagement with constituents, earning her the nickname “Sauti ya Vijana” (Voice of the Youth).
