Activist, social media influencer and commentator Scophine Aoko Otieno, famously known as Maverick Aoko, has been missing for four days now.
Her missing has raised alarm from various activists and Kenyans with some questioning the silence of the judicial systems that are supposed to uphold the rights of citizens and speak in such controversial instances.

A statement posted in the socials on October 27, 2024, by Francis Gaitho, read in part, “Aoko has been missing for 4 days now and LSK have not done anything to try and trace her.”
“I hate how civil society and mainstream media are selective and openly biased in how they dispense their duties,” he further reiterated.

Further, he stated that although they are pushing for unity in the movement, they are turning a blind eye to the glaring classism.
Furthermore, he stated, “They claim to champion equality and inclusivity but are practitioners of the opposite without any honour or shame.”

Kenyans React to Gaitho’s Post On Aoko Missing
While some Kenyans have shown concern over the recent rampant missing claims of various activists others have wished to completely dissociate themselves from the same.
Recent reports on abductions have seen various activists speak out on how legal organizations react to every individual case depending on the individual arrested or who goes missing.

Moreover, in this case, few have also shared their views on Aoko being missing. “Finally, someone said it, there’s selective justice in the way these activists and DCI respond to arrests…don’t be surprised when you find someone who was arrested during the June 25th protests still in custody,” one of the comments read.
On the contrary, others have viewed the situation from a different angle. “Aoko’s family have never said that she is missing,” another Kenyan commented.
Amidst speculations from several Kenyans that she might be held by the state it is not yet clear on her whereabouts.
On the other hand, others have criticized Gaitho’s post as well as Aoko as being abusive thus making people avoid them.
Other Activist Reported Missing
Aoko is not the only one sailing in this boat. Gyan Wahome, also a well-known activist, has been reported too.
Adding to the list, Boniface Mwangi was also reportedly abducted on Sunday, October 27, according to reports from the family.
Moreover, it is reported that the activist was rallying the public to occupy the Standard Chartered marathon taking place on Sunday 27 to protest against increased abductions which he considers punitive.

These issues have raised significant uproars and concerns from the public and their supporters as well.
“This morning at around 7.15 am, six uninformed people went to courage base and forcefully took my husband from the house. I have no idea who, why or where they have taken him,” Njeri’s statement on social media read in part.
