The Atheists In Kenya Society (AIK) has announced plans to file a formal complaint against Neno Evangelism Centre and its leader, Apostle James Ng’ang’a.
The move follows a viral incident involving its lead preacher, Apostle Ng’ang’a, who allegedly slapped a member of his congregation during a church service.
In a press statement released Monday, April 14, AIK condemned what they referred to as an unacceptable act of physical assault by a religious leader.
Consequently, the organization plans to submit a formal complaint to the Registrar of Societies, urging accountability and disciplinary action.
“The Atheists In Kenya Society intends to submit a formal complaint to the Registrar of Societies concerning Neno Evangelism ministries.
“It is unacceptable for religious leaders to physically assault members of their congregation without facing consequences,” stated the association.

Atheists Support Pastor Ng’ang’a
The incident, which reportedly took place during a prayer session at the church, has drawn widespread public criticism of conduct within some of Kenya’s churches.
Further, the atheists association noted that it fully supports Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma’s call for legal action to be taken against the preacher.
“We support Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma in urging that action be taken against Apostle James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism in relation to a “slapping” incident that took place during a prayer service at his church,” added Harrison Mumia, President of the Atheists In Kenya Society.
AIK is also appealing to the public for information about the assaulted congregant to aid in the case and has called on witnesses to reach out via the society’s contact channels.
“We encourage anyone who has information about the assaulted congregant to contact us as soon as possible via 0799 919 666,” the statement added.

Humiliation of a Woman
This is not the first time Apostle Ng’ang’a has found himself in the middle of a controversy.
Over the years, the preacher has made headlines for controversial sermons, altercations with government authorities, and his often dramatic approach to church leadership.
In February, the pastor was heckled after he humiliated and turned away a woman at his church after she asked the pastor for help, stating that she had been kicked out of her house for lack of rent.
Pastor Ng’ang’a then dismissed her, telling her that his church is for prayer and not for begging. He tells her to seek help from the government or the police.
After the video went viral, Kenyans online came together and contributed over Ksh300,000, which was coordinated by a police officer named Sammy Ondimu. Milka also secured a job at the Expressway Lounge.
