Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has responded to a viral audio clip that allegedly captures him ordering his wife, Roselinda Atwoli, to leave their home over her purported support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
The clip, which has circulated widely on social media in recent days, was shared by several users and blogs, with claims that it contains a heated phone conversation between Atwoli and his wife over political differences.
However, Atwoli dismissed the recording and accompanying claims, describing them as outdated and misleading.
In a post on X, Atwoli said the circulated audio was not recent and had been taken out of context.
“Outdated. This is an expired video and narrative! That misleading Heha production audio is more than 10 years old,” Atwoli wrote.
His response came after a post shared online claimed the recording featured a conversation between him and Roselinda Atwoli, who was alleged to be backing ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
The claims quickly attracted attention online, with some users sharing excerpts of the audio while others debated its authenticity and timing.
Atwoli, however, maintained that the shared recording was old and should not be presented as current.
Questions over the authenticity and origin of the clip intensified after screenshots circulated online showing content carrying a prominent “FAKE” label across the image used to promote the audio.

The leaked recording centers on a disagreement that emerged in 2018 over Roselinda’s plans to venture into elective politics.

During the conversation, Atwoli rejects accusations that he had abandoned her and their children, arguing that his reluctance to continue supporting the family stemmed from a separate dispute involving one of their children.
Atwoli had insisted that due to their separation, the child should be relocated to a place that he suggested, but Roselinda firmly refused.
The COTU boss was also heard insisting that the family homestead belonged to him and that Roselinda could not pursue a political career while remaining his wife, saying he could foresee dangers in the path she was taking that she could not see herself.
“The homestead belongs to the man. As you walk in the community as a woman, people refer to you according to your husband,” Atwoli said in the phone call.
Roselinda pushes back against the claims, maintaining that she had never refused to engage him in dialogue and arguing that communication had been difficult because Atwoli had not returned home since December 2017.
She also rejects the assertion that the homestead belonged solely to him, insisting that she too had a stake in the home.
“That house is mine too. Francis, stop being a dictator. I am a human being with needs too,’ she stated.

Roselinda Atwoli’s Political Activity
In January 2022, Roselinda publicly joined William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) during a rally in Bungoma and declared that she was part of the “Hustler Movement,” despite Francis Atwoli being one of Ruto’s most vocal critics at the time.
Her appearance at the rally drew national attention because of the sharp political contrast between her position and her husband’s, who was campaigning for Raila Odinga and the Azimio coalition.
After she publicly endorsed Ruto, Atwoli distanced himself from her choice and said she was free to pursue her own political path.
More recently, Roselinda has publicly aligned herself with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In 2026, she urged leaders and residents from Western Kenya to support Sifuna’s political ambitions, describing him as a capable leader and even appealing to Francis Atwoli to help finance his political journey.
