A postmortem examination has revealed that 86-year-old Dorita Macharia, mother of actress Regina Re, died from severe blood loss caused by multiple stab wounds to the neck.
Government pathologist Bernard Midia said the wounds damaged blood vessels in her neck, resulting in excessive external bleeding.
Midia also documented several other injuries, including cuts to the face, neck and arms, indicating the extent of the violence inflicted on her.
“The injuries consisted of multiple stab wounds to the neck with injury to the blood vessels which led to severe external bleeding, and two stab wounds in the neck,” he said.

According to the pathologist, the depth and nature of some of the injuries suggested that the attacker may have used a particularly sharp weapon.
However, Dr Midia said the examination could not establish the exact object used in the attack.
He described the wounds as consistent with injuries caused by a sharp-edged instrument, which could have been a knife or another blade.
Victim’s lawyer Philip Murgor said the completion of the autopsy was an important step, leaving detectives to pursue the perpetrators and the motive.
“We are glad this exercise has been concluded to the extent that we now know what the cause of her death was; the rest is entirely up to the DCI to establish the perpetrators and the motive,” Philip Murgor said.
The autopsy examination was conducted at Lee Funeral Home, where DCI detectives from Gigiri, three pathologists and lawyers representing the deceased and the accused gathered to oversee the process.

How Dorita Macharia Was Found Dead
Dorita was discovered dead in a pool of blood inside her Loresho residence, with several deep cut wounds on her body.
Investigators reported that she had disagreed with her granddaughter, Thandie Malaika, on October 30, after finding her in a compromising situation with her boyfriend. She reportedly ordered Thandie and the other friends at the house to leave the premises.
In an affidavit, investigating officer David Njoroge stated that a commotion followed the confrontation, prompting Thandie to leave the house.
However, she later returned and spent about an hour inside with her grandmother before Dorita was discovered lying in a pool of blood with an injury to the back of her neck.
Following the developments, Regina Re, her daughter Thandie Malaika, her brother Jimmy Macharia and Immanuel Munyeki were remanded for 10 days as detectives pursued investigations into the 86-year-old’s death.

The defence opposed the request to keep the four suspects in custody, challenging aspects of their arrests and arguing that investigators had not provided sufficient grounds to justify their continued detention.
Lawyer David Oyata questioned the legality of holding the suspects without clearly stating the offences for which they had been arrested.
In his submissions, he argued that investigators could not seek court orders to detain suspects without specifying the charges linked to their arrest.
The court, however, approved the prosecution’s request, granting detectives additional time to hold the four as investigations into Dorita’s death continued.
