Regina Wambui Gitau, popularly known as Regina Re, is a Kenyan actress, television presenter, communication trainer, and personal development coach who rose to national prominence as the host and co-creator of the television game show Who’s Smarter Now?, which aired on KTN from 1999 to 2006.
The programme became one of Kenya’s most recognisable television productions, making her a household name during its seven-year run.
Regina Re’s Breakthrough
Born and raised in Kenya, Regina Re built her career on a blend of media, communication and personal development.
Her academic background includes studies in Mass Communication, Counselling Psychology and Mediation, qualifications that later influenced her transition from mainstream media into training and mentorship.
Her breakthrough came when she won auditions to host Who’s Smarter Now? on KTN, a Sunday-night quiz in which a single contestant faced an hour of her questions for a cash prize.
Her sign-off “toodles,” delivered with a small finger wave, became part of Kenyan speech.
She worked closely with producer Mburugu Gikunda and executive producer Ian Fernández to develop and present the show.

Beyond television hosting, Regina Re pursued acting and featured in several productions.
She appeared in the long-running television drama Makutano Junction and also acted in the feature film The Inside Story, where she worked alongside actor Patrick Serro.

The programme targets professionals, entrepreneurs, students, executives and aspiring leaders seeking to improve communication, confidence and interpersonal effectiveness.
According to her professional profile, the initiative is built around four pillars: Public Speaking Presentation & Perfomance, Etiquette Enhancement, Personality Profiling and Personal Branding.

Her work combines lessons from the performing arts, communication theory, and personal development training.
She later expanded her training activities through The Royal Athena Academy, an online platform focused on personal growth, character development, leadership skills and effective communication.
The academy targets high achievers in business, education and professional sectors seeking to strengthen their leadership capacity and personal effectiveness.

Arrest and Murder Investigation
On November 1, 2026, former television presenter Regina Wambui Gitau was detained alongside three relatives as police investigated the killing of her 86-year-old mother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia, at her residence in Nairobi’s Loresho estate.
Detectives investigating the killing obtained orders to detain the four suspects for 10 days as they conducted forensic examinations, analysed evidence and recorded witness statements.
Dorita Macharia was found dead at her home in Loresho Ridge Estate on the evening of Friday, October 30, with a deep cut wound to the left side of her neck.
Philip Murgor, the family’s lawyer, said the injuries and the amount of blood at the scene did not look natural.
In court, detectives said the killing followed a domestic confrontation.
The elderly woman, they told the magistrate, found her granddaughter in her bedroom with her boyfriend, ordered the group out of the house and telephoned her son for help.
They also allege that Regina Re and her brother cleaned the room to tamper with evidence.
Held with her are her brother Antony Jimmy Macharia, her niece Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao and the niece’s boyfriend Immanuel Waigwe Munyeki.
