United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has accused the Azimio One Kenya coalition of planning to cause chaos during their planned parades and vigils on Wednesday, July 26.
In a press briefing, Malala claimed the opposition postponed the protests and directed their supporters to attend a candle lighting ceremony at night with the aim of causing destruction.
“We are telling anyone planning to cause destruction on Wednesday night that the President has ordered that there must be security at night,” Malala told the opposition.
Further, Malala accused the opposition of hiding behind the night vigil with an intention of causing disorder, adding that even the government is mourning and praying for the affected families.

“We are all mourning and there are various ways of doing this; you can go to Church and pray for the families or visit the homes of the affected families, ” he said.
Additionally, he stated that the government will ensure the safety of the citizens despite the resistance from the opposition.
Malala to Uhuru
Also, the UDA Secretary General told the former President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow President William Ruto to work and stop meddling in his affairs.
“If he (Uhuru) wants Ruto to deliver on the promises he made to Kenyans, he should stop sponsoring the anti-government demonstrations,” said Malala.
Malala also mentioned that the country is stable, and the government is not in need of a ‘handshake’ with the opposition leaders.
“So far we are very stable, we have the majority in the National Assembly and the Senate, and the government is being run effectively.
You have seen the cost of prices reducing, for example fuel, and we expect food prices to fall after harvesting next week,” he said.

Why Azimio called off protests
In a statement on Monday, July 24, Azimio asked its supporters to hold vigils in honour of Kenyans maimed during recent countrywide protests.
“Azimio has made the decision that on Wednesday, rather than go to the streets for a peaceful demonstration as earlier announced, we will hold solidarity parades and vigil for victims of police brutality in various locations in all parts of the country,” read part of the statement.
