Activist Boniface Mwangi has put Mombasa County government officials on the spot over the disapproval of a memorial concert which was to be held in the coastal town.
In a statement on July 10, Boniface revealed that organizers of the event had followed the necessary procedure in writing and waited for the county’s response before proceeding to organize the event.
However, the activist noted that the county government declined their request and explained that Gen Zs movement is anti-Raila Odinga despite receiving verbal approval.
“We were to do #MashujaazLoveConcert this Sunday in Mombasa. We made our request in writing, and we were given verbal approval as we waited for the written approval. This morning the county government declined to give us a venue and said Gen Zs movement is anti-Raila. Shame!” Boniface said.

Shujaaz Memorial Concert
Boniface Mwangi remarks come after a successful organization of a similar concert at Uhuru Park Gardens, Nairobi on July 7 dubbed #ShujaazMemorialConcert.
The concert was meant to celebrate the lives of Kenyan youth who lost their lives through police brutality during the anti- Finance Bill protests which began on June 25.
Additionally, Mwangi credited the success of the event to Kenyans, his friends who contributed and Governor Johnson Sakaja who permitted him to use the grounds for the event on Saba Saba day.
Speaking to the press on July 7, Mwangi said the event was organized with support from Kenyans, himself, and some of his friends.
“Kenyans are paying for it. There is no single person who can say they have put all the money here. I have put some of my money here, and so have friends,” he said.

Artists Perform at Uhuru Garden Concert
According to Mwangi, the star-studded concert saw over 30 artists performing to a crowd of approximately 500 plus people.
Among them were Juliani and Eric Wainaina who have a track record of artistic activism and socially conscious releases.
Also, in attendance at the event were Muthoni Ndonga, Khaligraph Jones, Octopizzo, Trio Mio, among others.
Mwangi reminded the youth of strength in unity and the cause of the protests citing the need to hold leaders accountable.
“We are strong, and this is a fight to liberate this country from the clutches of leaders who take advantage of young people,” Mwangi concluded.
