Cambridge Universal College has been officially closed by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) effective January 20, 2025.
In a statement, TVETA indicated that the institution, located in Isebania, Migori County, failed to meet accreditation standards.
The shutdown took effect following the institution’s inability to comply with the requirements outlined under Section 17 of the TVET Act CAP 210A.
Moreover, the officers visited the institution on November 29, 2024, after carrying out an inspection and gave the directors 21 days to comply with the requirements of the TVET Act CAP 210A.

Another TVET Institution Closed
The closure of Cambridge Universal College was quickly followed by the shutdown of Yolifa Institute of Business Studies in Rongo town, also in Migori County, on January 21.
Similarly, the institution was found to have failed the registration and accreditation criteria necessary to continue operations.
TVETA has urged parents and guardians to verify the accreditation status of colleges before enrolling students.
TVETA visited the institution in May 2024 for an inspection and found that it was operating without registration and other legal requirements as provided in the TVET Act.
Therefore, the Director was served with notice to comply failure to which the institution will be closed.
“When the officers visited the institution again in November last, they found it still operating and submitted their report to the TVET Board. The Board subsequently ordered the institution to be closed.”
“However, when the officers visited the institution accompanied. by security officers, they found it deserted. That notwithstanding, the team put closure notices around the institution and also served the owner on email,” noted TVETA.
A full list of recognized institutions is available on the TVETA website, and inquiries can also be made through the authority’s official email or phone numbers.
“The Authority continues to urge parents and guardians to verify the registration status of any college before enrolling students by visiting the TVETA website (https://www.tveta.go.ke/accredited-tvet-institutions/). “
