Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has intensified his criticism of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of poor performance in the interior docket.
In a statement, Cherargei expressed his concerns about Murkomen’s incompetence, emphasizing that while shortcomings in road management can be rectified, failures in internal security can result in lost lives that cannot be recovered.

“What I saw two years ago about CS Murkomen’s incompetence can now be seen!! at least incompetence in roads meant that it can be fixed later, but incompetence in internal security means lives are lost that cannot be recovered!!” Chaeraragei said.
Cherargei pointed out that incidents of internal insecurity have increased since Murkomen took charge of the Ministry of Interior, linking these recent security challenges to Murkomen’s leadership.

Cherargei Renews Beef with Murkomen
He noted that Murkomen’s predecessor, the current Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki, had performed well during his term as Interior CS, successfully mitigating insecurity in the country.
“During Kindiki’s tenure, there was significant containment of insecurity. Now, under Murkomen, we are witnessing machete gangs marauding, terrorist attacks in Turkana and northeastern Kenya, and increased insecurity in our villages, including my hometown of Kapsabet, where a person was killed just 200 meters from the Kapsabet County police headquarter,” Cherargei said.

Recent security incidents in the country include an attack on Sunday in Fafi, Garissa County, where suspected Al-Shabaab militants targeted a camp housing national police reservists, resulting in the deaths of six officers and injuries to four others.
Additionally, an assistant chief from Kong’asis Sub-Location in Tiaty East, Baringo County, was killed in a confrontation with armed bandits.
Earlier this month, five chiefs were abducted by suspected al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County while traveling to Elwak for a security meeting in preparation for President William Ruto’s visit to the region.
Murkomen Threatens to Sue Cherargei
As of now, the whereabouts of the chiefs remain unknown, though the government has pledged to secure their release.
This is not the first time Senator Cherargei has accused Murkomen of incompetence. During Murkomen’s tenure as CS for Transport, Cherargei consistently criticized him for prioritizing trivial matters over critical issues.

At one point, he highlighted the deteriorating condition of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport terminal, which was plagued by leaking roofs- among other challenges.
Cherargei also previously alleged that Murkomen received a Ksh 15 billion incentive from a Chinese investor, prompting the Interior CS to issue a demand letter for Cherargei to retract his remarks.
