Citizen TV’s media personalities have dominated the list of journalists eyeing political seats in the upcoming 2027 general election.
As the campaigns by aspirants aiming to secure political positions gather pace, the Royal Media Services-owned TV and radio stations have at least five established journalists who are potentially associated with a political bid.
Other journalists from other media services, including Radio 47, have also expressed interest in various political seats ahead of 2027.
Citizen TV Political Aspirants
Trevor Ombija, a journalist known as the host of Citizen TV’s Monday Report and Day Break, officially launched his political campaign in Kisumu in mid-March 2026.
Ombija will be vying for the Nyakach parliamentary seat in Kisumu County.
His political interest positions him to succeed the current Member of Parliament Joshua Aduma Owuor, who is reportedly eyeing the Kisumu gubernatorial seat.
Trevor had hinted at becoming an MP for Nyakach in early June 2024 while attending a funeral in the constituency.
Later in December 2025, Ombija posted a video undergoing prayers and captioned it “Nyakach has agreed.”
His campaign strategies include public rallies and community engagement, with a focus on capping school fees, improving security, and developing infrastructure.
“I am assuring you one thing only, if one day you elect me, I will ensure that day school’s fee is KSh 1,000 per term,” Trevor pledged during his campaign launch.
Willis Raburu
Former host of the Citizen TV show 10 over 10 declared his intention to contest the Kisumu Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.
His declaration followed his meeting with Siaya Governor James Orengo, who later announced that Raburu had joined the Linda Mwananchi movement.
While welcoming Raburu to the ODM faction under Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Orengo commended Raburu for his expertise and skills in the media and announced his intention to contest the Kisumu Senatorial seat currently held by Senator Tom Ojienda.

Lulu Hassan
Lulu Hassan, a long-serving news anchor, has been linked to the Mvita parliamentary seat in Mombasa County in the upcoming elections, which is currently held by MP Machele Soud.
The speculations arose in May 2025 after images of branded T-shirts and reflector jackets bearing the slogan “Lulu Hassan – Mama Mvita” started circulating online.
Lulu has also been spotted on many occasions in Mvita engaging in community engagement and supporting youth development in Mombasa.
In late 2025, Lulu dismissed the news about her political interest in Mombasa as a rumor, labeling the posts circulating online as unverified and likely AI-generated.
Stephen Letoo
Citizen TV political journalist and reporter Stephen Letoo has also shown interest in the Kilgoris parliamentary seat in Narok County.
Speculation about Letoo’s bid intensified in early 2026 after an independent opinion poll by Politrack Africa put him in the spotlight as the leading candidate for the Kilgoris MP seat.
Letoo has since emerged as a challenger to the incumbent, Julius Sunkuli, who is serving his third term and regained the seat in 2022 after serving from 1992 to 2002.
As of April 2026, Stephen Letoo has not made a formal public declaration of his candidacy, despite reports suggesting his involvement in strategic engagements and networking within the constituency.

Michael Njenga
Michael Njenga, a journalist of the Inooro TV, under Royal Media Services, has declared his intention to vie for the Kabete parliamentary seat in Kiambu County.
Njenga, however, has yet to officially launch his campaign for the position. He has been associated with the revamped Jubilee Party, which analysts say could be his party of choice in his bid.
Alex Mwakideu
Popular presenter and host at Radio 47 has been linked to the 2027 Kilifi governor race.
In several online discussions and informal lists of potential 2027 candidates, Mwakideu has been at the top of the numbers.
His potential bid for the Kilifi governor position as of April 2026 remains unofficial.
