Trevor Ombija is a Kenyan media personality and television news anchor, best known for hosting the Monday Report and the morning show Day Break on Citizen TV.
Born on September 9, 1988, Trevor hails from Nyakach in Kisumu County.
His journey to becoming a TV star was not easy. Prior to pursuing higher education, Ombija first worked as a matatu conductor in Nyakach.
Educational Background
He is an alumnus of Anding’o Opanga Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County, where he completed his secondary education.
Trevor Ombija pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies (Broadcast Journalism) at the University of Nairobi (UoN) between 2010 and 2013.
He also obtained a Certificate in International Computer Driving Licence from the Institute of Advanced Technology, where he studied from 2011 to 2012.
Rise of Trevor Ombija
In November 2018, after nearly five years at NTV, Trevor Ombija announced his departure from the station and later joined Citizen TV, which is owned by Royal Media Services.
When he joined Citizen TV in early 2019, Ombija took on the role of hosting Monday Report, a weekly programme focused on in-depth analysis of current affairs and politics.
He also anchored the morning show Day Break, a role he has held to date.
Trevor began his journalism career at CCTV Africa, where he worked as an assignment desk editor between May 2012 and July 2013.
He later joined the Nation Media Group in August 2013 as a news presenter at Nation FM/Easy FM, where he was responsible for sourcing, scripting, and delivering hourly live news updates.
In August 2014, he transitioned to NTV, also under Nation Media Group, where he worked as a news anchor and reporter.
Before plunging into the media industry, Ombija worked as an assistant sea exports coordinator at SDV from February 2010 to April 2011, where he handled export logistics from Nairobi through the Port of Mombasa to regional markets.
Earlier, he was a leaf stores clerk at DHL between December 2006 and January 2010, managing supply records and supporting distribution operations.

Political Ambitions
In June 2024, Trevor Ombija announced his intention to vie for the Nyakach parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections.
According to Ombija, his early life as a matatu conductor and his dedication to improving local development drove his decision to enter politics.
He outlined plans to focus on infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment.
In December 2024, Ombija took part in public prayers led by a pastor, presenting his political ambition as a calling and seeking spiritual backing.

Family
During a 2024 political rally in Nyakach constituency, Trevor Ombija publicly introduced Vanice Morwabe as his wife.
Vanice serves as the co-founder and director of the Trevor Ombija Foundation and has a background in education, with a strong focus on youth empowerment.
Achievements And Accolades
In 2020, Trevor Ombija was honored with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in recognition of his distinguished contributions to journalism and public service.
The award underscored his influence in investigative reporting and political analysis at Citizen TV.
