Police officers in Ongata Rongai have raided a church selling bhang to its congregants arresting some members as others fled the scene.
According to police officers at the scene, the raid took place on Tuesday, October 31, after a tip off from concerned individuals in the community.
Further, the officers stated that they confiscated Ksh6 million worth bhang packed in 26 bags that were already being sold to other individuals in Rongai.
Notably, the shocking revelation, according to the officers, was that the church had been operational for a long period and had many congregants.
“We have confiscated 26 bags of bhang and one of the bags has a type that is referred to as stones.
“The stones were about 40. So, you can only imagine the worth of the bhang we have found here today,” the police commander stated.

Congregants Flee the Scene of Crime
Moreover, the officers arrested some of the suspects who were members of the church while others escaped.
The officers revealed that they suspected that all the members of the said church were marijuana users.
“Very strangely, we have been told that this is a church, and it was being used as a bhang den. It is the church that has been selling the drugs to the congregants and others in this area.
“We suspect that those who come to worship in this church are not sober people. We know that the church members cannot run too far because they are individuals known by this community, but we suspect they all use bhang,” added the police officer.

Church Members Stealing Electronics
Additionally, the officers stated that they found several electronic devices that they suspected had been stolen.
At the same time, they found a goat that was being slaughtered by the church members for celebrations.
Notably, it is the celebrations that alerted the community who then later notified the sleuths.
“We also suspect that they are also thieves because we have found electronic devices that we suspect had been stolen.
“They were also slaughtering a goat because the residents found them slaughtering the animal for celebrations. That is how they came to discover that the church sold bhang,” added the officers.
