The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered Ksh11 million worth marijuana after a high-speed chase with a Prado driver.
In a statement on Monday, October 16, DCI stated that the white Toyota Prado was headed towards Kilgoris town in Kisii County when officers asked the driver to stop.
However, the driver failed to comply with the orders, speeding off and making quick turns along the road.
“During the afternoon recovery, the officers who were on active patrol had sighted a white Toyota Prado that was loaded with a suspicious consignment heading towards Kilgoris town.
“The officers signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop but he defied the orders and sped off at breakneck speed and upon reaching Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye,” DCI stated.

According to the directorate, officers then followed the white Prado engaging it in a high-speed chase.

However, when the driver learnt that he would not be able to outsmart the DCI officers, he decided to abandon the vehicle and ran away on foot.
“When he realized that he was being trailed by our men, he abandoned the vehicle within Metembe area and escaped on foot,” added DCI.
Subsequently, the officers towed the vehicle to Kenyeye Police Station and a detailed search was conducted.
Moreover, the officers recovered six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa all weighing 379Kgs.

Similar Incidences Addressed by the Directorate
In a separate incident on September 5, DCI officers in Kilifi seized 316kg of bhang with street value of about Ksh 9,480,000 from a Land cruiser.
The vehicle which was transporting the marijuana landed in a ditch in a self-involved accident, exposing the bhang that was stashed in seven gunny bags ferried along Kaloleni – Mavueni route.
The seizure comes at a time when police countrywide have heightened the fight against drug abuse, trafficking in narcotics, and sale and consumption of illicit brews.
