The family of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer, Hassan Moyo, who died shortly after taking part in Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir, has spoken of their shock, saying he had no known illness and was full of energy.
Constable Hassan Moyo’s relatives said his sudden death has left them struggling to come to terms with the loss, insisting he had always been healthy and active.
His elder brother, Ali Moyo, said the news of his death came as a huge shock to the entire family.
The family described the officer as hardworking and committed to his duties, noting that he had never shown signs of sickness before the incident.
“Since he was born, he had never had any illness troubling him. He was very much okay,” Ali Moyo said.
Hassan Moyo’s Collapse
Constable Moyo collapsed moments after taking part in a Madaraka Day parade in Wajir.
According to a police report, the officer fell shortly after the march past at Wajir Stadium at about 9.05 am as leaders and residents gathered for the national event.

He was rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10 am.
The report indicated that he died from myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack.
The sudden incident shocked fellow officers and members of the public who had turned up for the celebrations.
The loss has left a young family vulnerable, with relatives saying Moyo was the main provider and has left behind two young children.
Burial Plans Underway
The family said preparations are underway for a dignified send-off for Constable Moyo.
Plans were made for his body to be viewed in Nairobi before being transported to Kwale County for burial at the family home in Magaoni village.
He will be buried in accordance with Muslim rites.
Relatives said the officer’s father was expected to travel to Nairobi to view the body before it is flown to the Coast region.
Constable Moyo joined the disciplined forces in 2017 after missing an opportunity to join the military.
He later rose through the ranks and graduated from the elite Recce Squad in 2018.
During his service, Hassan Moyo was deployed in Garissa and Turkana counties before his most recent posting in Nairobi.
He was a former student at Kwale High School, where he completed his secondary education in 2011.
Family members said he served diligently in the GSU and remained dedicated to his work throughout his career.
News of his death spread quickly, drawing messages of condolence from leaders and members of the public.

Rising Sudden Deaths Among Kenyans
Constable Moyo’s death adds to a growing number of cases where security officers have collapsed during or shortly after parades and other physically demanding public duties, raising concern over underlying health risks.
In May 2021, a Kenya Navy officer collapsed during Madaraka Day celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu and was carried off the field.
In November 2025, a graduating police officer collapsed during a pass-out parade at the National Police College in Embakasi, Nairobi, during a ceremony attended by President William Ruto.
The NPS later attributed the incident to fatigue after a long journey and exposure to heat.
In January 2026, three Kenya Defence Forces recruits died after developing medical complications during endurance training, raising further concern over the physical strain faced by officers.
