Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has kicked off the transfer of all police officers who have served for more than three years in their current station.
In a statement on Friday, March 8, Kindiki said the transfers will be implemented immediately.
This in a deliberate effort to address inefficiencies that often arise from conflict of interest in service delivery.
Kindiki initiated nationwide operation when he met Murang’a County Security team led by County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha.
Furthermore, the CS explained that the move seeks to eliminate conflict of interest, guard against internal sabotage. Additionally, the strategy would enhance service delivery in the security sector.
“The 3-year transfer policy must apply mandatorily for all Police Officers Countrywide. Beginning this morning, all Police Officers who have served in one station for more than three years will be transferred to eliminate conflict of interest, guard against internal sabotage and enhance service delivery in the security sector,” Kindiki started.
The CS Interior further elaborated that the crackdown to combat illicit liquor and narcotic drugs will continue.

On the operation, he affirmed that it is a timeless operation that will go on until they root out the menace.
Kindiki also directed the Inspector General of police Japhet Koome to enforce the directive.

Despite past operationsbeing hampered by competing political and commercial interests, the CS stated that newly launched exercise is a security operation to tackle a national threat and devoid of politics.
Kindiki to sack police officers
During the meeting, the CS stated that police officer linked to the production of illicit brews are going to be sacked and not the usual transfer.
He argued that there is no essence of transferring problems to other regions.
“Security officers aiding or abetting the distribution and consumption of poisonous and toxic substances leading to loss of lives and injury will not be transferred to other jurisdictions.
They will be discontinued from service and prosecuted with the most severe charges,” Kindiki warned.
He said the government will deploy all the resources at its disposal to fight the war on drugs and illicit brews.
In addition, he stated that drugs and poisonous substances are threating the future.
“Illicit liquor and narcotic drugs are an existential threat to the future of our nation. It affects every family, directly or indirectly,” Kindiki revealed.

The CS vowed that the crackdown on manufacturers, distributors and traders involved in the illicit liquor and narcotic drugs enterprise is a security operation that will be undertaken without any politicization or vested business interests.
