Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho has received another application from a private investor seeking a mining license to explore for gold in Narok County.
In a Gazette Notice dated September 3, 2026, Joho notified the public of the application for a mining license covering 5.5563 square kilometers.
“PURSUANT to section 34 of the Mining Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs notifies receipt of an application for a mining license,” the notice read in part.
The proposed area comprises 26 cadastral blocks in Narok County, with gold listed as the mineral sought.
CS Joho Gives Narok Residents 42 Days to Challenge Gold Mining Bid
In the notice, CS Hassan Joho said the application has been published in the Kenya Gazette and is available for public inspection through the Ministry’s Mining Cadastre portal at https://portal.miningcadastre.go.ke/.
Joho said members of the public and communities have 42 days from the date of the notice to submit comments or objections to the proposed mining license.
Any person or community objecting to the grant of the license should submit the objection to the Cabinet Secretary within the 42-day period.

“Any objection by any person or Community against the grant of the mining license may be submitted to the Cabinet Secretary within forty-two (42) days from the date of this notice.”

Earlier 475 Acres in Narok for Private Investor’s Gold Exploration License Application
In a Gazette Notice dated July 30, 2026, under Gazette Notice No. 13785 pursuant to Section 34 of the Mining Act, CS Joho notified the public that the Ministry had received an application from a private investor for a mining license in Narok County.

The application, registered under ML/2026/0451, covers 1.9232 square kilometers, equivalent to approximately 475 acres, and comprises nine cadastral blocks. The mineral sought by the investor is gold.
“PURSUANT to section 34 of the Mining Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs notifies receipt of an application for a mining license, the details of which are set out in the Schedule hereto,” CS Joho stated in the notice.
The proposed mining area is defined by specific geographical coordinates listed in the Gazette Notice. The application identifies Narok County as the locality where the private investor intends to undertake the proposed gold exploration and mining activities.
