ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo has sponsored David Odhiambo Muga who scored 399 marks in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and earned a spot at Maseno School.
As an alumnus of Maseno School, the CS offered to sponsor Muga through the Eliud Owalo Foundation.

CS Owalo handed over a cheque of Ksh 98,654 to the Principal of Maseno School to cater for Muga’s form one fees in full.
“In our view, education is a catalyst for transformative change, both at the personal and societal levels,” he said in a statement.

“Within the Eliud Owalo Foundation, we believe in its unparalleled power to shape a better future. Education stands as the great equalizer, breaking down barriers and levelling the playing field, regardless of one’s age, circumstances, or socio-economic status.”
The amount will cover school fees, development fees, uniform, games kits, mattress, and other consumables.

Further, Muga received Ksh.6,000 as pocket money for the whole year.
According to the CS, the Owalo Foundation has also committed to covering Muga’s Fees up to Form 4.
In addition, the Foundation provided seed capital of Ksh.50,000 for Muga’s mother to start a business that would augment the family’s finances.
How Owalo Spotted Muga
Muga’s journey to his secondary education faced uncertainty due to financial constraints, with his father, a casual labourer, and his mother, a housewife, struggling to meet the required fees.
As a result, he took to the internet, posting an appeal for support from well-wishers and sponsors to fund his education.
Eventually, this appeal captured the attention of the CS who promptly reached out to Muga’s family.
“Thanks to the intervention of the Eliud Owalo Foundation, Muga, an aspiring neurosurgeon, now has the opportunity to pursue his secondary education,” read the statement by the CS.
About the Foundation
The Foundation has in the past taken part in programs relating to health, education, women empowerment, youth and sports, environmental conservation.
According to its profile, the Foundation believes in the transformative power of education and works tirelessly to provide opportunities for bright and needy individuals like David Odhiambo Muga to achieve their dreams.

Netizens showered the CS with praises for supporting Muga’s secondary education.
A Facebook user named Evance Otieno thanked the CS for putting a smile on Muga’s family adding that it will never fade.
Similarly, Georga Arwa thanked the CS for choosing to walk with the less privileged.

In addition, Opiyo Nick Odiwuor said the CS has contributed immensely since he joined the Kenya Kwanza government.
According to Odiwuor, Owalo is an example of leaders that resident of Luo Nyanza need.
