Hours after goons stormed an event in Limuru, Kiambu county attended by former Deputy President Rigathi gachagua, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, (DCI) on Thursday November 28 summoned Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa.

In a statement, the Kiambu Senator said that the DCI has summoned him to appear before them on Friday November 28 in the morning.

“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident that occurred in Limuru. This intimidation will neither intimidate nor silence us. See you in Nyeri tomorrow at 10 a.m,” Thang’wa’s  statement read.

Karungo Thang’wa to appear before DCI in Nyeri

“I CI Joseph Chirchir a police officer attached at DCI Limuru making inquiries into alleged offence of malicious damage to property/ injury to persons at bibirioni boys high school playground on 28/11/2024 at 1500 hours and have reason to believe that you Senator Paul Karungo Thangwa have information which will assist me with my investigations.

In the exercise of powers conferred to me by section 52 (1) of the National Police Act No. 11A of 2011, I require you Senator Paul Karungo Thangwa to appear before Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Nyeri on 29/11/2024 at 10:00 AM. Karungo’s summon came hours after chaos erupted at a funeral held at the Bibirioni Boys High School playground in Limuru, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua’s allies led by Thang’wa accused the state of sponsoring goons to disrupt the burial to undermine the influence of former DP in Mount Kenya region.

While speaking in DCI headquarters, Kiambu Road, where they pitched camp during the night, the Kambu Senator said they demand for quick and swift investigation of what transpired in Limuru.

Gachagua allies demand for quick and swift investigation in Limuru’s incident

“We demand for quick and swift investigation of what transpired   where an attempt on the life of Rigathi Gachagua was carried out by hired goons by the government. We truly believe it was a well-planned incident,” the Kiambu Senator said.

Thangwa’s sentiments were echoed by Nyandarua John Methu Senator who was also present at the DCI headquarters.

“I will not say Rigathi Gachagua is okay, I would say he is lucky to be alive today. If you look at the young men who followed him to his vehicle, had he not been evacuated using the right hand of the back seat, had he sat on the ordinary left side of his car, he certainly would have been hurt badly. I have talked to him, and you can feel he is not very okay,” Methu said.

On his part, Gachagua stated that he would not be intimidated or deterred from standing with Kenyans who rely on him for support during their moments of need.

“We just expect such a terrible moment of shame will not be repeated,” Gachagua stated.
