A Democratic Party (DCP) convoy encountered a hostile group in Soko Mjinga, Nakuru West Sub-County, where the convoy was blocked and pelted with stones.
The incident occurred amid former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Congress Party (DCP) activities in Nakuru, where the party has been seeking to strengthen its political presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to witnesses, the convoy, including the vehicle ferrying Rigathi, was attacked with stones without any provocation.
“They started throwing stones at us without any provocation. Luckily, we are not hurt, but we have no idea if Mheshimiwa was unharmed,” one of the drivers stated.
The incident occurred as Gachagua and his DCP allies continued their grassroots mobilization in Nakuru County.
Reports indicate that Gachagua’s Nakuru program included engagements in different parts of the county, with Soko Mjinga in Nakuru Town West among the areas listed on the party’s itinerary.
The former Deputy President had earlier in the day opened a DCP regional office in Naivasha, marking the beginning of the party’s Nakuru mobilization tour.
Ahead of the Nakuru tour, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago had cautioned Gachagua against what he described as divisive politics in the Rift Valley.
Mandago’s remarks came as political activity intensified around Gachagua’s planned engagements in the region.

Matiang’i Heckled in Bomet as Crowd Chants Ruto Slogans
In a separate case, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i was heckled in Bomet Town on Friday, August 14, during his political tour of the South Rift.
Matiang’i was forced to cut short his address after a section of the crowd became hostile and began chanting slogans in support of President William Ruto’s bid for a second term.
According to reports, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary was addressing residents when the interruptions intensified, making it difficult for him to continue the planned engagement.
Following the incident, Matiang’i and his team left Bomet Town, reportedly abandoning a planned stop in Mulot.
The latest incident also contrasts with Matiang’i’s earlier visit to Bomet Town in May, when an impromptu stop attracted a sizeable crowd and turned into a political rally.
