A video circulating on social media shows a woman crying for help with her hands tied as a confrontation unfolds inside a staffroom at Forest Primary School in Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County.
The footage seen by The Kenya Times shows the woman appearing distressed as she appeals to her father for help and says she is bleeding. Her father is also heard questioning how a disagreement over school payments could escalate into violence.
In a statement dated October 6, Makena Donah Ngatia, who identified herself as the sister of a student at Forest Primary School, recounted how she was allegedly strangled, beaten and restrained after visiting the school to resolve a dispute over her brother being sent home over lunch money.
Student Sent Home Over Lunch Money
Makena said the incident began when the school sent her brother home over lunch money despite ongoing examinations and the required examination fees already paid.
She said the family contacted the headteacher, who allegedly told her that nothing would be done to the student and advised her to transfer him to another school.
“We contacted the school and spoke to the Headteacher. During the conversation, the Headteacher stated that nothing would be done to him and also told me to transfer my brother to another school. I therefore instructed my brother to return to school,” stated Makena.

Makena said she then instructed her brother to return to Forest Primary, but the school sent him home again and told him to bring their mother.
According to her, their mother went to the school but was later told to contact Makena and their father.
How the Dispute Escalated
Makena said she sought help from the Education Office, which contacted the headteacher and directed her to take her brother to the office and pay the required amount.
She said she subsequently returned to the Forest Primary, where the headteacher allegedly refused to speak with her and forced her out of his office.
Makena claimed the confrontation escalated when the headteacher began strangling her. She said she cried for help but couldn’t leave because the doors were locked.
Woman Details Alleged Beating and Restraint
Makena accused a male teacher of grabbing her, hitting her against a wall and kicking her approximately three times in the lower abdomen.
She said the area was particularly sensitive because she had a previous Caesarean section scar.
Makena further alleged that she was hit more than 10 times with a green PVC pipe and struck twice on her back with an object she described as a mshariti.
“The school watchman was then called. He stepped on my neck, tied me with a black rope and forced me to kneel. Throughout the incident, I was crying and asking for help,” said Makena.
She claimed the school watchman was subsequently called and that he stepped on her neck, tied her with a black rope and forced her to kneel as she continued crying for help.

The circulating footage appears to show the woman with her hands restrained as a confrontation unfolds inside the Forest Primary.
Makena identified the headteacher and three other individuals alongside the Forest Primary watchman as the people she witnessed assaulting her.
She also alleged that female teachers and other people present did not intervene to help her or her family during the incident.
Kenyans Call on TSC, Education Ministry to Act
The video has sparked reactions from Kenyans, who have called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education to intervene.
Benjamin Kimtai questioned whether the incident had been reported to the police, describing the allegations as both assault and gender-based violence.
“Did you report the incident to the police? That’s not just an assault but also a Gender based violence,” Kimtai wrote.
Oliver Wilson called on the Ministry of Education to intervene, stating: “Ministry Of Education, this is completely unacceptable.”
Wilson warned that they would visit the school and ensure the matter was not treated as business as usual.
