Former Citizen TV host Kimani Mbugua has recently found himself in distress, appealing for help after reportedly being mugged while live on TikTok.

In an Instagram post, he detailed the harrowing experience, stating that he was accosted by an individual wielding a weapon during his morning walk in Jomoko, Thika. 

As a result, he sustained injuries to his leg and hand but assured his followers that he was doing okay. 

“I am doing okay but I lost my Samsung A34 which you guys bought me.”

“Guys I was mugged this morning while I was live on TikTok by a guy with a panga, I was on my morning walk in Jomoko in Thika. I hurt my leg and hand but am doing okay.” he said.

Having promptly reported the incident to the authorities at Kiandutu police station, Mbugua issued a heartfelt plea to help recover his Samsung A34 smartphone, which he disclosed had been purchased for him by his fans.

This device was instrumental to his content creation endeavors, making its loss particularly distressing for the former TV personality.

Mbugua’s journey into content creation was touted as the launching pad for the ex-citizen TV star media career following a challenging period in his life.

Last year, he found himself grappling with financial difficulties after losing his job in 2020. In a bid to kickstart a new venture, Kimani turned to social media, where Kenyans rallied behind him in a remarkable display of generosity.

Led by digital content creator Nyako, an online fundraiser exceeded expectations, raising double the initial target amount of Ksh200,000.

Mbugua expressed profound gratitude as contributions soared to Sh420,000, ultimately reaching an impressive total of Sh500,000.

“Thank you! Thank you so much. I never would have imagined ingekuwa hivi (it would be like this). I am so grateful to all of you. Asanteni sana,” Mbugua said as he celebrated the news of fundraising efforts.

Reflecting on this outpouring of support, Mbugua marveled at the unexpected turn of events, acknowledging the profound impact it had on his life.

The overwhelming response from well-wishers provided him with a newfound sense of hope and optimism for the future, signaling a turning point in his journalism journey.

Kimani Mbugua Struggles with Mental Health Challanges

During a candid interview with comedian Oga Obinna, Mbugua shed light on his struggles with mental health and substance abuse.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2021, he candidly shared the challenges he faced as he navigated through a turbulent period in his life.

Battling with mental illness took a toll on Mbugua, leading to the loss of relationships and a sense of isolation from those around him.

However, amidst the mental health struggles, the unwavering support of the Kenyan online community opened another chance for Mbugua to redeem his career, offering the much financial support he had requested.

The 27-year-old’s journey has had both its stellar moments and downsides since he was brought into limelight in 2020. 

Despite facing adversity and grappling with personal health issues, Mbugua’s unwavering determination to overcome obstacles shines through, inspiring others to embrace their vulnerabilities and seek help when needed.
