Police officer accused of murdering two bar attendants at Loritas Liquor Club, popularly known as Vegas Club, in Nakuru County was arraigned and charged in court on Wednesday, January 10.
In a statement, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said Police Constable Nicholas Musyoka Musau charged with the murder of Ann Maina and Laura Kaswira at Nakuru High Court.
The accused based in Nakuru Central Police Station is alleged to have committed the crime on the night of 12th December 2023.
“It is alleged that PC Nicholas Musyoka was uncomfortable paying a bill of Ksh.14,250 after he consumed drinks and/or enjoyed food with friends at the club after which he shot four people two of them succumbed to bullet injuries and other two survived with serious wounds,” said DPP.
Further, the prosecution led by SADPP David Okachi and PC Monicah Mburu opposed an application for their release on bond/bail.
“The matter was adjourned to 17th January 2024, to allow the probation department to submit the Pre-Bail report that will guide the court in determining the bond terms,” added the statement.
About the Shooting
Musyoka allegedly opened fire at the club at around 2:00a.m before escaping after an altercation with the barmaids at the Vegas Club.
According to witnesses, the officer allegedly argued with the bartender after he failed to pay a Ksh16,000 bill.
Other revelers at the club stated that they saw him reach out to his pistol before opening fire.
It was further reported that the officer was in civilian clothes at the time of the incident.

While confirming the incident, Nakuru County police commander stated that the officer was arrested and locked up at Kaptebwa police station.
In addition, he noted that a pistol with two rounds of ammunition and six spent cartridges were recovered.
Furthermore, the commander noted that the four victims were two men and two women.

Recent Incident of Police Opening Fire in Bar
On November 12, 2023, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers were arrested after detonating two grenades at a local bar in Sotik, Bomet County at around 6 am.
According to the police OB, one of the soldiers was on a weekend off while the other was on leave.
During the search, a black bag belonging to one of the soldiers was discovered behind the counter of the bar cum restaurant containing 4 grenades, along with other personal items.
