Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday for all Kenyans as Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Adha
In a gazette notice on Wednesday, 4, 2025, the ministry notified the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration has declared Friday a national holiday.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, 6th June 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” read the notice.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
Muslims to Celebrate Eid Al-Adha
The Chief Kadhi said on May 28, 2025, that the Saudi Arabia Supreme Court confirmed the sighting of DHUL HAJJ 1446H Crescent.
The Supreme Court, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, confirmed today, Tuesday, 27 May 2025, the sighting of the DHUL HAJJ 1446H Crescent.
Therefore, the Chief Kadhi explained that Wednesday, May 28, will mark the first day of the DHUL HAJJ 1446H.
“Accordingly, tomorrow, Wednesday, 28 May 2025, is the first day of DHUL HAJJ 1446 H. ARAFAH will be on Thursday, 5 June, and EID UL AD’HA will be on Friday, 6 June 2025,” read part of the notice.

What is Eid Al Adha
The Islamic calendar features two Major festivals, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid Al Adha, a holy festival celebrated by Muslims, falls more than two months after Eid Al Fitr.
