Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addressed the media on Sunday, October 20, after spending several days admitted at Karen Hospital.
He explained that he experienced shortness of breath minutes before he was to appear before the Senate for cross-examination.
It was then that he was admitted to Karen Hospital under the care of cardiologist Dr Gikonyo.
“When I was going to the office in the afternoon, I suddenly developed very intense pains in my chest. I sat down and the pain continued, it was very intense and painful.
As I was speaking to my doctor, I started having shortness of breath and Dr Gikonyo directed me to drop everything I was doing and get to Karen Hospital,” Gachagua explained.
At the same time, Gachagua condemned the government for withdrawing his security while he was being admitted to the hospital.

“It is very unfortunate that when I was here in the hospital my brother and my friend President William Ruto ordered the withdrawal of my security from the hospital here.
He ordered the withdrawal of security guards in my rural home in Nyeri, in a private home in Karen and officers close to me were disarmed and warned not to associate with me,” Gachagua revealed.

Further, Gachagua said he is surprised by the actions President William Ruto has taken against him, noting that he stood by Ruto while the government was frustrating him during Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
“I did not know that President William Ruto could become that vicious. I am shocked by how vicious a man I helped to become president could be. A man I believed in. A man I was viciously persecuted for supporting could be so vicious while I am literally fighting for my life in hospital,” Gachagua further revealed.

The impeached Deputy President additionally stated that he is still the Deputy President, citing conservatory orders from a Kerugoya court and a court in Milimani staying the Senate proceedings. According to him, the President violated these orders by withdrawing his security and undermining the operations of his office.
“The President, in total violation of the court orders, viciously withdrew security around me and, to further cripple the functions of my office, ordered through the Head of Public Service, Kosgey, that all officers in my office be sent on compulsory leave,” Gachagua said.
