The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, held its inaugural National Executive Council meeting at the Party Headquarters since the unveiling of the party on 17 May 2025. The party has issued a way forward following the postponement of the party launch at the Kasarani Sports Centre.

In a statement on Tuesday, 3 June 2025, the Communication and Resolution of its Party NEC meeting directed the Secretary General to source an alternative and suitable private venue for the party launch within June 2025.

“The party launch that was scheduled for 4 June 2025 and later moved to 3 June 2025 wouldn’t take place because the management of the Kasarani Sports Centre, at the behest of the Ruto Administration, cancelled our venue booking with no possibility of a future date.

Consequently, the NEC directed the Secretary General to source an alternative and suitable private venue for the party launch within June 2025,” read part of the statement.

Additionally, the party stated that once the venue has been identified and agreed upon, it shall communicate to its party members and supporters accordingly.

Also, during the meeting, the NEC further authorised the recruitment of interim county coordinators to support the party organs at grassroots level and assist the national secretariat.

Furthermore, the NEC approved the establishment of county and constituency offices in all areas where they have not yet been set up.

The National Executive Council further appreciated the enthusiasm of aspirants across the country in establishing party offices; while this is commendable, it is guided that any party office must be sanctioned by the NEC, and thus any such offices outside of this framework are deemed illegal.

Moreover, the NEC sanctioned the establishment of aspirants’ forums in all counties, to be guided by County Coordinators, whereby all aspirants across the country seeking elective positions on the DCP party ticket are encouraged to contact party headquarters.

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which was unveiled on 15 May 2025, postponed its official launch scheduled for 3 June 2025 after Sports Kenya cancelled its booking of the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Cancellation was attributed to prior bookings by sports teams and preparations for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The DCP had paid over KSh 3.7 million to secure the venue, which was initially requested for 4 June but rescheduled to 3 June at Sports Kenya’s suggestion. The party condemned the move as politically motivated, describing it as an “affront to democracy” and alleging government interference to suppress their growing popularity.
